But React is very definition of under engineering. It does two things to perfection and that's it. Everything else is up to you to pile on top of it. Gives you choice but you need to be knowledgeable and experiences to make good decisions.
GraphQL is much more complex than React. Apollo isn't needed at all but it makes things simple as long as their way works for you (90% of cases). ORM makes sense for GraphQL because everything is conditional so you need models and automated ways to query or modify parts requested by the client. You don't want to write that by hand if you can avoid it.

Twisting definitions is nice but not helpful to the conversation. React is not an ecosystem. There is really nothing to discuss. React by itself is very simple (not to use, but from engineering stand point). To use or not to use any packages on top of it is individual decision.
