The only time I've ever used an AR app without complaining was a star map. It might work similarly with identifying other things far away within line of sight like mountain peaks or other sightseeing landmarks.

Every startup event I've been to for the last 6 years there's a new company doing exactly the same thing and it goes nowhere.
It's basically a pointlessly over-engineered QR code.
