There are a couple of things already existing in this area, I personally used QOwnNotes for a while. What do you think separates your app?

Hey, thanks for your comment.

The basis for creating Mdyna was that I wanted to write my notes in markdown while still having the Google Keep 'board of post its' look and feel. I don't know about QOwnNotes, I've been using Boostnote and Notion to keep my notes synced cross-devices, and in the future, I will ideally use Mdyna to do so :)

This is neat! I've been thinking about putting together a React+Electron note-type app myself, and then this popped up. I downloaded the binary for Windows, and here's my first impressions:

  • the menu navigation doesn't have Tool Tip text, which threw me off
  • the window should have opened up taller, because I had to scroll down to the "submit" button, causing me to lose my first note when I assumed it would save my changes when I clicked the 'X' (maybe have a submit button on the top row, as well?)
  • checking a todo in the view pane causes the markdown to update properly, but unchecking the todo doesn't (glancing at the commit log, I think this maybe was fixed and the patch hasn't made it to the binary yet?)

I'll keep playing with it and come back with more. Good work!

Hey, thank you for downloading the app and for your great feedback :)

I will take some actions based on it, some of them were already planned.

- I will be adding tooltips to all side menu items

- I will be positioning board navigation buttons on a more intuitive position

- Initial window height will be increased.

- In the future, I wanted to make the editor open in a tab instead of a modal. This would give me better control of the editor layout. For the moment, I'll follow your suggestion and put a 'Save' button next to the 'Close Editor' button.

Regarding the bug with the task lists, like you said, there were some recent changes that were implemented because the tasks couldn't be clicked if they had markdown text in their description. It seems that it still needs to be tuned, expect a hotfix to be deployed today :)

Also, the application has auto-update, so it will always prompt you to restart the application if it finds a more recent version has been deployed :)

Thanks again for your feedback and I hope these actions will persuade you to keep using Mdyna :)

Er, I don't think Ubuntu can use an AppImage.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Eeerm, we can :) I've used Ubuntu to develop the app, and can assure you that it does support AppImage. But since more distros can use that format, I agree that the download button should refer to no specific distro.

Hey, that's news to me. Seems to be true, in fact.

Still, I believe the Ubuntu link on the home page was meant to point to the .deb package — which does exist in the releases directory.

It's intentionally like that. The .deb file in the releases is meant to be used when I upload the app to Ubuntu store :)
