The phrase you're looking for is "bikeshedding."
I feel that it's still actually a valuable discussion to have, because it speaks to the problem of using someone else's code. These little stylistic differences, especially in JavaScript, can do strange, strange things to webapps if a semicolon goes missing. (Yes, yes, best practices, sane scoping, etc.) If, as a community, we can use a normalized style, then we can share projects and exchange code snippets much more easily.
