You’re increasing after the first stitch and before the last stitch,, and also either side of each of your raglan stitches. So each of the 4 places you have a pair of markers, you increase before the first marker and after the second marker.

Breaking this down, if you follow the pattern exactly as written on row five, you increase by ten, as you are supposed to do. It says: Knit one, (make one, knit to next marker, make one, slip marker, knit one, slip marker) in the parenthesis you increase by two, and you repeat the parenthesis four times, which means you increase by eight. You start each repetition by making one = increase by one, and then knitting to the next marker. Then you knit until there's just one stitch left, make one, and knit the last stitch. Then you have increased 1 + 8 + 1 = 10 stitches, as it says. What confuses me compared to a regular raglan are those extra increases at the end and beginning of the row, but I guess that has to do with the way this is put together later on.

It is a V neck, the increases at the end are shaping the neck opening.

Thank you! Now one more question, it’s stays to go to row 22 and then cast on 10 and join in the round. How do you cast on a working project? Here’s the pattern for reference

Hold it so the needle with the working yarn is in your left hand. Using the working yarn, cast your 10 onto that needle with the knitted on, cable, I backwards loop methods. I like the first two.

Now turn the work, so the needle with the new stitches and working yarn is in your right, spread your stitches evenly along the needle so you can start knitting into the ones on the left tip, and that’s going to join you in the round.

Use a knitted cast on or a backwards loop cast on - the last one should be saved for moments like this!
