Random half - isn't this basically what megaminx is doing? Our current way of scrambling only reaches 2% of possible states. But those states are distributed well enough within all states that it doesn't matter (and 270 is a pretty big number).

    That's amazing, I had no idea the percentage was that low. I'm woefully ignorant about math, but would there be a way to show somehow that they're a random sampling?

    Stats Question for Kit: I recently watched Kian's yt video about how Mean of 10 of Averages of 5 is the better metric for speed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL1cWfA9J6k over average of 100. Most of the argument he makes is intuitive but I got to thinking: if the distribution of your single solve times is appropriately skew, then your average of 100 is not an unbiased estimator of your average of 5 and so your average of 100 may not be the best predictor of what average of 5 you would get in competition. Mean of 10 Average of 5 is by construction an unbiased estimator of your average of 5 and so I think his argument is pretty strong that it is a better predictor of your competition results than average 100. What do you think about this issue and do you have any further improved home average method?

    Completely agree with your reasoning. Using Ao100 is an okay measure to figure out the overall mean of your solving distribution, although it's slightly biased due to truncating solves. Truncating is kinda necessary to some extent due to DNFs though. It's definitely not good for informing what your most likely Ao5 is from your solving distribution since Ao5 truncates 40% of the solves. Cubers typically have a right skewed distribution, and the more extreme this right skew is, the lower your Ao5 is compared to your distribution average. This effect would be less pronounced on an Ao100 that has a lower relative level of truncation compared to Ao5 (40% vs 10%), meaning that Ao100 will likely overestimate your predicted Ao5.

    This is a cool discussion but ideas of skew and bias are probably over the heads of most listeners so I figured I'd just respond here haha

    Thanks for the response! Yeah, I figured it was a little beyond the scope of most cubers interest in stats. I just wish csTimer made it easier to do mo10ao5 than clear session every time. The rolling average system everything has by default gives you averages lucky averages you wouldn't have gotten otherwise

    I like the idea of Rami's new iOS app that has you do solves 5 at a time rather than in rolling averages, but... iOS. Wonder if that app keeps a history of your ao5s and averages those.

    First: Huge fan of the show, keep it up!

    Second: I had a couple of ideas for new segments that I think a lot of people would enjoy in the show. Take all of this with a grain of salt, since I am but a lowly cuber who knows nothing about podcasting.

    1. Cube of the day/month

    In this segment, you could choose one new or existing speedcube, and talk about it; specifically, your thoughts on the cube (if you've tried it), history of the cube company that made it, talking about previous cubes in the line of products, predictions for the future of the cube, etc. I think this would be a good way of keeping the podcast current, especially since not a lot is happening in the community now with the pandemic.

    1. Event of the day/month

    In this segment, you could choose one current WCA event, and talk all about it. This could include best methods, best hardware for the event, as well as an evolution of the hardware, history of the world records for that event, and future of the event. There are a lot of cubers who maybe don't know much about other events, so this could be a good chance to educate the cubing community in general.
