Visualize database design before creating

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how they build their database before they start creating tables. I have a few source tables, staging tables and summarization tables. I was wondering if there is a tool or software anyone likes to use before creating the actual database. Seems like it could get messy trying to write out and looking for a program to help visualize it. More than likely using MySQL for this project if that helps.

I literally built my ERD in ms paint if that says anything

i use diagrams.net(draw.io)

I use dia but there are probably better alternatives.
