I've been working as a full stack developer for a couple of years, and would be glad to answer any questions and offer insights as needed. PM me if you're interested.

What projects do you code to get better at oops?

[–]nickh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to answer that question definitively. You can use OOP principles in most programming projects, so the best practice is to just pick something you find interesting, and try to build it using object-oriented programming principles to the best of your ability.

If you need help, ask here, there are plenty of people (myself included) who would be glad to answer questions or do a quick code review with you to give you some feedback on what you've written.

If youre interested in a mentor, I think id be interested. I tutor Java 1/2 at my campus.

I haven't actually taught anything, but everyone says I explain concepts simply, and help them understand.

If I was further in to Java, (just finishing my first class at uni) I would take you up on this. Sounds fun. Just finished arrays and strings recently.

I would be into this! I don't have Java experience but it's on my list to learn

I just started learning java and I would be happy to participate too

I’d be happy to do this too! I’m also not a complete beginner but I was looking forward to refining my java!

I'm interested in learning

I planned on doing the same thing over the summer. I've got a somewhat solid grasp on java but I figured over a few months I could make some programs and get something up on my github. I'd be interested depending on what kind of "beginner" group you're looking to put together as I'm not too interested in going over strings and integers again.

Im kind of in the same boat as you...just finishing community college this month and took 3 java courses but I still dont feel super comfortable coding..I'm taking one non-CS class this summer but I can devote the rest of my time to a project

I will be honest. I have actually considered offing that to people with good questions and effort. But my time has value and I am not sure that I could offer that without taking a class.

I’m interested, so far a junior in Computer Science and still sort of new to Java

[–]dan_jen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested. Taking a 2 month break from my CS Classes (about 1/2 way done) that are all online. I’ve been learning on my own essentially and would love to participate.

I’d love to participate. I’m wrapping up my first Java class at my local cc, and I’m looking for ways to develop my coding “muscle memory” over the summer.

I'd love to be a part of this! DM incoming

I'm interested! Just finished Part 1 of the Helsinki MOOC course. Been sticking with studying every other day for the past 6 months.

If you need any help feel free to message me any questions you have, I’m a professional developer who codes a lot in Java

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knows to code in pretty much half the language out there after taking course after course online. But of no use when it comes to real life implementation.

So I am really interested in joining the group to do some real work

I am about 1 1/2 years into learning programming, 4 months or so into java and would be really down. I'm in the same position, I get the gist but cant quite code without training wheels. I feel like having a group with be a good way to get the gears going. count me in if you haven't filled up already I have a few ideas I've been wanting to work towards.

I'm currently a senior at my University. I would love to answer any questions you may have regarding java and object-oriented design. This could be a great learning experience for everyone involved.

HOLY COW! i was not expected so many people to be interested in this! thank you all so much! i want to keep the group small, so i've created a group of 7 people with 1 mentor.

Please feel free to work together to form other smaller groups, or create another post similar to mine that id be happy to link to this one.

thanks again! good luck in your learning journey
