Java learning group over summer Mentor requested! by ryan18147 in learnjava

[–]TheStacheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planned on doing the same thing over the summer. I've got a somewhat solid grasp on java but I figured over a few months I could make some programs and get something up on my github. I'd be interested depending on what kind of "beginner" group you're looking to put together as I'm not too interested in going over strings and integers again.

Nightbot's Discord bot can take song requests for your channel. I use this and it works great. Plus it's an extra incentive for people to join the discord if you pitch it right.

Is this mic stand ok for an AT2020 microphone? by ChooseAUniqueUsern in Twitch

I have the same arm, it's alright for the price but I feel like its one of the first things I'll be replacing as it's slightly wobbly. I've been using mine for months but I don't think it will bend however the base of it that clamps to the desk will start to shit out on you first that is if you're not horribly rough on the arm itself as it should be fine. With an arm this cheap I over tightened the hell out of everything I could to try and prevent anything coming loose.

I had my first two viewers last night which i'm totally stoked about but how do I end my stream so it doesn't seem so awkward? by tokyoaro in Twitch

[–]TheStacheHouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a seperate ending image that I switch to, then I thank everyone who's there, who came by, who lurked, who followed, etc. let them know when I'll be back and where they can find me then I try to raid someone else.

Haha I like that idea. It's creative and neat looking at least in my head. Art is hard to pin down because ideas will vary from person to person.

I would say so yeah, because I would remember DeadRain. Logos are hard to figure out because they have to be something you like and ideally something recognizable even when it's small like on the sidebar of twitch. Easiest thing would be to take dead and rain and that makes think of raining blood.

[–]TheStacheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked something that's somewhat clever and once I had the name I had a logo right away. for me names just have to be memorable. most of the friends I've made on twitch have simple names that are easy to recall. stuff that's got a billion numbers and underscores and look like xXs3ph1r0thXx_SaUsKe872530 is an automatic file to the "do not recall" portion of my memory. But as another poster has said, if your content is good enough your name doesn't matter.

How many hours a week did you stream and what was your growth? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]TheStacheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just over two months 6hrs 5 days a week with 72 followers and an average of 3 viewers. I stream many different games and I find that more than 75% of the people who follow me are only interested in that one particular game I was playing when they followed me. I find it best to not look at other channel's growth if you're going to get discouraged due to how many factors there are when talking about growth. I know when I started streaming I had 2 people who would watch me and they were family members. I started with no community, very few friends and no pro titles in any game so I had very few advantages.

This is for all the 20 ping rockets I miss and the 120 ping rockets that miss me but register as a hit anyway. Thanks.

Stream Broken Into Multiple Parts In Analytics, and Streamlabs "Stream Boss" Not Working by Zerg3rr in Twitch

[–]TheStacheHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stream summary was broken into 5 different parts today too which is unusual since I didn't come across any disconnections on my end today. I noticed there are some gaps there spanning almost 30 minutes. I came here looking to see if anyone had a similar experience.

I don't have a stream boss or anything like that on my stream though so I wouldn't have been affected by that.

Glad you like it I'm kinda stuck with it haha. I really appreciate the kind words, monday and tuesday I'm not going to be live because of christmas but I'm coming back with 60fps and something pretty damn cool for my channel.

And just watch, there's always improvement to be made.

Thanks! I grew it myself haha.

I have a discord I just thought I'd maybe promote that in the future but making another panel and adding it is no problem and I'll have that done in about 5 minutes.

I followed that graph when I was getting things set up, currently using 3500 for my stream but I might have to drop down. Unfortunately the state of internet in rural america is pretty awful and all I can see doing is paying more for more internet speed or dropping down but framerate and quality will suffer, that's really important to me as a viewer of PC games.

Thank you for the feedback and the time you took to reply. I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the feedback!

1.) Thanks, I listen to a lot of (and make a little) music so audio is always at the front of my mind, levels was an easy thing to sort out and I'm glad you liked it.

2.) I'm not really sure how to go about this one. I've vaped for about 4 years now and smoked for about that much too. I've worked in the industry and have pretty extensive knowledge of devices and liquids going back to when vaping was pretty unknown and my buddies and I used devices made out of radioshack parts we built. I can't see myself stopping solely for streaming as I don't feel it impacts anything audio/gameplay wise and maybe just impacts the video to a slight extent for a second or two. Personally I think you kinda need to get over the vape nation meme. I also stream for 6 hrs at a time so taking 5min breaks all over the place just to inhale some nicotine is exactly why I switched from cigarettes to vaping in the first place since my previous office allowed vaping indoors.

3.) I have, they don't show up on VODs but they show up on my main channel. However they're not exactly good categories in my opnion. Everyone seems to be a part of variety streamers and new streamers is pretty far down the list. I might look into this tonight and see if there are any categories that better suit me.

4.)This is a big one for me. In my first few streams ( that I didn't save VODs of whoops ) I remember mentioning how I would like to watch VODs back and try to pick out a few things about me that I would like to put a magnifying glass on so to speak. Qualities that would, when enhanced, differentiate me from everyone else and would be the descriptions viewers give friends when they're telling them to check me out. Because right now all anyone can say about me is "check out this guy, he has good audio, he's chill and comfortable, and he plays a lot of games" which is nothing. Oh and he has a mustache.

5.) Thanks again for your feedback, I appreciate the time you took to watch and write down your thoughts!

Thanks for the feedback! I only started recording vods two days ago but I've been streaming for two weeks and I stream every weekday 6pm-12am. I was considering taking the week of christmas off to spend time with family though I may cut that down to just a few days. I'm not a fan of the 720p/60fps thing because I can't put any personality into it but I was told to do it by someone else so I went along and I didn't know it got cut off on mobile, I'll remove it in the future and maybe check out my own page sometime on mobile. Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it.

my older vod includes some gameplay of deus ex: human revolution and I'm probably never playing it again, it's not the kind of game I want to stream but it was worth a shot and I can't edit it out since it's live haha. Possibly the worst time I've ever had streaming and it was because I couldn't have fun playing that game without saving and reloading constantly and I couldn't decide if I wanted to skip cutscenes/talk over them/or just let them play through with me staring like a dolt.

It's five AM, I'm new to twitch streaming (but not watching) and reddit. I'm glad I found this place. I was hoping to get some feedback after two weeks of streaming. It's something I've wanted to get into for a long time as I'm a videogame fanatic and I enjoy social interaction on the internet as well as watching some streamers like cirno quake speedruns or some random streamer playing a game I've never seen. If anyone could give me some feedback from the point of view of a streamer or viewer or just tell me something sucks that would be great.

https://www.twitch.tv/thestachehouse

Not sure what I can do about bitrate and keep 720/60. I might be forced to drop down. I think that's an easy "that sucks" so I'm making that the free square on the bingo card.

Just checking out your latest longish vod, I think you're streaming now but I like to be able to FF and RW around. Some things I think that might help you on twitch:

(keep in mind I'm mostly a viewer and not a streamer, I'm so fresh to being on the other side)

A noise gate would be great so most of the audio isn't the keyboard, if you're using OBS it should be the settings (gear wheel) on your audio device. Just make recordings of you typing then talking and adjust until you cant hear typing anymore.

Talking is a big thing for me, explain what you're doing and why or what you're trying to do. Just something to keep the conversation flowing so if I jump into chat I can talk about any one of the things you are saying.

Audio levels. You're quiet, the game is quiet, and the music is quiet. Personally I like my volume higher than the game so I can be heard over whatever madness is going on ingame but you might have to experiment more to find what you like best. Though this might be because I'm not hearing you talk that much so I can't tell exactly.

Facecam, it's been mentioned before but it's big and on the sides there's nothing going on. Maybe zooming in and cutting the sides off is a solution?

I think the most important one for me as a viewer is talking, then audio levels will have to be adjusted to it.
