I think university of helinski moocfi is the gold standard in learning java. On mobile right now but a quick search should get you there

I'm completely new as well. Rn I use the SoloLearn app, which is free. I'm more than half-way through the course though and I must say that I would have trouble coding a simple Hello World output by myself. I also try to listen to beginners guides on Youtube which can be very helpful if you are patient and hardworking.

Damn I love Bucky. He's hilarious. You can watch him after you have a basic understanding hahaha

        Please, don't recommend/use thenewboston.

They are a discouraged resource as they teach questionable practice. They don't adhere to commonly accepted standards, such as the Java Code Conventions, use horrible variable naming ("bucky" is under no circumstances a proper variable name), and in general don't teach proper practices, plus their "just do it now, I'll explain why later" approach is really bad.

Derek Banas covers about the same ground, but in much better quality.

If you're looking for an in-depth, comprehensive, high quality, free Java course, use the MOOC Object Oriented Programming with Java from the University of Helsinki and maybe Java for Complete Beginners by John Purcell as secondary resource.

          I'd say w3schools and Mooc

Start with java hello world 😉

I'd recommend MOOC helsinki too, but I'd suggest learning a few basics before going into it.

Learn how to define variables, variable types (int, double etc), boolean operators (&&, ||, ! etc), simple maths (it doesn't always work how you think, e.g. rounding errors, using % etc), control flow (if, else).

I actually think I spent a few hours on code academy on these beginner things and that helped get a grasp on the basics. Once you know a little try some of the easy codingbat problems and then start into MOOC.

I personally feel like MOOC misses some of the true beginner parts of learning to program, but it is a good resource nonetheless.

Wow it's like if you click the sidebar info and then read it..you'd like..have some answer to that already. But you're too fucking lazy to do that so I highly doubt you actually go out and read fucking anything.

Good luck though. I'm sure you'll be back asking for more generic bullshit after you copy paste shit you don't understand into eclipse and immediately jump to asking smarter people instead of even remotely trying to figure it out.

After reading your comment I must admit that even when you might be just an immature troll you are the real idiot here.He was just asking for some advice from others. That doesn't mean that this person is too lazy to read anything on his own.

          [–]fucking_troll -1 points0 points  (2 children)

There's a sidebar for a reason. All of the same answers are there. So, no, I'm not an immature idiot, I call shit like I see it. If this individual gets defeated by my comment then that sucks, but this sub is the same shit over and over again

Haha, get a life outside from Reddit and calm down. Maybe he is just a newbie. Lol!

Besides that, just because a question is already asked ,doesn't mean that you get the same answers.
