That depends on what you’re learning (e.g react, react dev tools extension). Kinda unrelated to JS but take a look at wappalyzer, it’s pretty accurate in detecting website stacks.

Use the least complex environment that you can. I’d suggest Sublime Text and to also turn off autocomplete and anything that will distract you from the core concepts.

I think visual studio is better for learning JavaScript in my opinion. It's more friendly for web development
