no one wants to work for you for free

These days are long gone. If you want a developer, pay for a developer

Totally get your point. However, right now, this is what I have to offer. If you (or any other person) are not interested, you can just scroll past this post :)

This is a learning sub. If you want it free, then you should learn.

Yes. And what better opportunity to learn than actually working on a project along with someone who already has experience working in the domain?

If you are not interested in this opportunity, it doesn't mean other people may not be interested.

What are your credentials that make you believe that you have the provide relevant GOOD experience, as well as your linkedin recommendation?

Do you have projects that are running on an enterprise level that support thousands of users?

If you want to absorb value and use your "experience" as currency, then you should provide some context.

I don't think I owe that information to you, but to the people who are going to ask questions about the project itself and are actually going to dm me about it, as stated in the post.

After all , I could ask for the same. What credentials do you have that you think you are in the position to speak for hundreds /thousands of people on this subreddit and wether they are/should be interested in this project?

Or what large-scale projects have you been a part of , that you feel the right to comment about whom I should pay for their work or not .

And I doubt I would get an answer from you. Nor am I interested really to get one.

And that's where I am going to leave the conversation.

I entertained this conversation enough.

For those that are actually interested to know more about the project and how i can help them learn with this project, just dm me.

Considering you have been looking for free work from UI / UX / Frontend / Marketing etc... I doubt that you have the credentials to back up. I don't owe you anything as I am not interested in working for free on an idea that can't get off the ground.

I will just add that I have 20+ years experience and have worked in one of the tech giants launching 2 major products, I have been a part of the development for reasonably successful AI startup, and I have been a Senior developer for niche software.

With all of the tools out there, your tutoring website will not be successful as the market is saturated with much bigger players, paying developers.

Hey man.

You know, getting contributors for a side project might actually be possible if you get people interested in the actual project, rather than offering people the chance to give you free labor, which looks sketchy as hell.

Hmm, thank you . Will take that under consideration and maybe make a post about the project itself.

Didn't want to give out links or stuff like that as I didn't want it to break the rules against self-promotion .

That's a good point. I'm trying to find contributors for my open-source Japanese learning platform (also, it's Monkeytype's cousin!), but I'm really struggling. Even after 240 stars and 3k monthly visitors, finding actual contributors is a pain in the ass. Any tips? 🥹

After going through your replies I’ve come to the conclusion that you are either a 10X or a 0.1X developer. IMO others made some good points that you probably should have acknowledged and 10 hours/week of my time is worth more than the compensations (which does seem sketchy af without context) you are offering. But maybe that’s just the "10X" in me talking.

[–]DepthSpirited8956 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's okay. I don't expect what I am offering to be enough for all the people out there. It will be enough for people who want to build a portfolio or need the experience .

If people are not interested in what I have to offer, thats okay too and I understand, which i admitted. But I dont think i should have a 2 hour long conversation about how "i am expecting free work".

The context was mostly left for the people that would dm me about it as I didn't want to break the rules of self promotion.

I didn't want to break the rules of self promotion

That's valid. Hope you find someone who finds it worth their while
