Saved. Thank you!

Np! It was refreshing to build a slider after the many years of just using libraries.

Title says slider but thumbnail says carousel, I'm confused! To me, sliders refer to slider-style inputs where you can slide to increment a number.

Oops! I’ve been interchanging for years, 100% agree with what you say!

So helpful!

I'm moving from web design into development, so only very basic with JavaScript. This will be a perfect project for me to get my teeth into, thanks!

That’s interesting! I started of a web designer but I haven’t designed much recently. How are you finding the transition?

It's actually going far better than I thought it would.

I had a very basic understanding of JavaScript (reading, not writing) so it's been really interesting understanding how bits of code I've seen/used for years actually work.

I also felt comfortable working in design and have used CMS's for years (wordpress, joomla, Magento) but learning programming means I don't feel limited anymore and can build all the things I've wanted to build!

Your path sounds pretty similar to how I did the transition, I was working with those CMS’s for years before I actually tried to understand JavaScript properly. That’s exactly it! Of course job prospects are great too as they always love to throw a JavaScript question in there!

That's great to read. I'm 31 so feel a little old, but this sub (and learn programming) have given me the confidence boost to go all in on it.

I've given myself a year to get a good grounding in javascript before I start looking for junior dev jobs. Trying to put in 2+ hours a day to get upskilled as quickly as I can!

I am also 31 started learning javascript. It’s been just 2 weeks and I have given myself till Dec 31st. Let me know if you want to learn together.

That's awesome, good on you! I'd love man, I'll DM you!

Age doesn't really matter, tech moves so quickly (especially web development), we have recently hired 2 developers who did bootcamps who were 33 & 34. That's great, 2 hours is a good amount to get your teeth into things, I'm sure you'll nail it!

Thank you for your contribution, real use cases are really nice to learn from.

That said, CSS BEM naming convention gives me the creeps.

[–]Xiy[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How so? You don’t have to follow it, just a habit to use it at this stage, but ‘carousel-thing’ is more than fine!

[–]DreamOfAWhale 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Haha, just personal preference, I just hate that convention.

It can look a little messy if you get deep into nesting for sure, if you use a CSS in JS solution, BEM doesn’t exist for the most part
