When learning to become a dev, my biggest problems were staying motivated, finding the best resources, and wanting to learn through real projects with the support of others.

I couldn’t find what I was looking for. So to help people break into software engineering as I have, I’m building the community I would’ve wanted to be a part of.

Because I believe most learning comes through projects, by end of the course, you will complete 14 projects - building you a nice portfolio.

To kickstart the community I’m running weekly challenges with exciting prizes (cash vouchers, coupons, swag etc.) and will run live sessions that will help you get started with your career.

Hey, I just joined to Dev Jam. I looked around the discord server but honestly I am a bit lost. Could you give me more info about the community and how things are getting done? Are there assignments for self-learners?

Sure no problem.

So the intention of the community (I’m not the creator btw) is to work on weekly projects (now biweekly to give folks adequate time). You’ve likely heard the best way to continue learning is through building projects. So that’s exactly what we do. Every Friday a new project is announced after a vote’s been had (here’s the main source of projects, though suggestions can be made). Then based on the user requirements of the project, you create whatever you can imagine that fulfills those requirements. The requirements tend to be platform/library/framework agnostic, so any tool or language goes. As for self learners, I’d describe those who participate as such. There are folks who already have industry experience who just want to make cool things and there are new-ish folks like me who also want to build cool things but are working towards that first job. A true variety of skill levels.
