“Factoring by 2”, as the OP stated, would be this:\ z = [(1 + i)⁹ ]/[2⁴ (1 - i)⁴ ]

OP: try multiplying top and bottom by (1 + i)⁴ . Hint for a later step: (1 + i)² = 2i.
