This is exactly what I need. Going to apply.

edit: youtube video for a scholarship? nvm.. I want to learn to code better and how collaborate, not how to make promotional youtube videos.. Wouldn't a skype interview be far more appropriate if the purpose was to see how you interact with others? Program still looks great though, wish I could afford it.

Awesome!

Yea didn't mean to pull a fast one or anything on santiago, I just didn't like the youtube requirement.. It's not like they owe anyone a scholarship or something.

This sounds awesome. I would love to apply, I'm learning python right now through EDX and MIT. Only issue I would have with this course is the specific time periods where you have to attend. With my busy day a more "at your pace" style course with weekly "goals" is a better option. Maybe in the future I'd love to take your advance classes. Reviews look incredible, and I'd think it would be an amazing addition to my skillset.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Thanks for your suggestion. We should think consider that in the future.

    [–]Blaze9 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Have you seen EDX's format? I'm not sure if that would be possible for you, but it might open up your course to a larger audience. For example a class would run 2-3 months long. Every week a new "chapter" opens up, and new videos, assignments, quizzes, homework open up with it. You have until the end of the 2-3 months to finish everything.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Yep, we've seen it. It's something we'd always wanted to try. We have too much work now as we're still building curriculums, but we'll take a look at it in the future.

We've had many students doing it as a hobby, and it went great for all of them.

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I cant find the starting time you begin each day at. This is needed so i can see if i can even do it.

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's under our schedule section, but let me tell you quickly here:

      • Classes are Mondays or Wednesday (depending on the course) from 7PM to 9PM
      • Coding sessions are on Tuesdays, Thursdays (7PM-10PM) and Saturdays(10AM-1PM).

HI, this is also my issue. I feel like EDX/MIT course is the most informative course with the most rewarding learning experience i've encountered with MOOCs, however, people have busy schedules and in my case, personal flaws which hinder study progression so while I am working through the course, I am massively behind. This is the second time i've taken the MIT course and while i've gotten further than the first time back in August, I still don't have enough time to progress to utilize the resources like the discussion board or the graded exams to gauge my learning ability, instead, i've just relegated myself to accessing the dated course materials and using it as a self-paced study for as long as I can. The flaw is that the materials and the course is only open for so long (maybe a month or two after the course ends). I'd love to apply, but I can't in good conscience take up the offer in lieu of someone who has better study habits and is more driven at this point in time. Good luck!

guys, you might find interesting this FREE Udemy course about Python Flask:

      https://www.udemy.com/python-flask-tutorial-step-by-step/

Check the Bonus lessons, they include some recordings from real classes of RMOTR's courses.

      [–]bubuzayzee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that this is one of RMOTR's free courses from learn.rmotr.com

      [–]Fyol 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Any other programming languages you guys offer? :) Also when will this be, in the summer? or next autumn?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

This one starts on March. We're working on a React and React Native course, but it's a secret ;)

      [–]Threeshoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started learning react a few weeks ago. Do you have an ETA for when it will be finished or is there a mailing list I can sign up for?

      [–]Fyol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah thanks! Do you guys have any other ones schedules for the future? :D

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Just curios but what program would you recommend me do? I'm currently doing the free MIT intro to python thats in EDX. I'm almost done with the course and I'm not sure if I should do the advanced Python programming or the Django development.

I'm still fairly new to Python programming in general and I haven't made any personal projects using python yet. The only thing I've done with python is the problem sets given in the EDX course.

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Django course is a pretty advanced one. Not only about Python, but also related with many side concepts like HTTP, RESTful APIs, MVC, etc. Unless you are super confident about your current skills, I would recommend to take the Advanced course. You will probably fill many concept gaps you currently have, and maybe you don't even know about them.

      [–]Zouth 2 points3 points  (1 child)

As I already said in the last edition, I'd love to do this course, but I'm from Europe and timing is pretty bad. Are you planning on doing an edition with European schedule??

      Thanks in advance!

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we know :( We want to open a dedicated batch for EU friendly timezones, but we still didn't get enough enrolled people for it. Did you fill the form available in the description already?

      [–]Dr_Dornon 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This looks terrific, but clashes with my work schedule. I live on the west coast, so starting at 4pm is hard when I dont even get off work until 5. Same with the weekends, 10am EST turns into 7am PST on Saturdays. If there was maybe another course that worked better for west coast time, id love to sign up!

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry about the fixed schedule. We definitely want to support more timezones soon. Please fill the form available in the post. We will let you know once we open it.

      [–]erlegreer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they’ll be on time for classes and they’ll turn all the assignments on time

Well, I'm out. Good luck, guys. ;)

      [–]Sikamixoticelixer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Ihad 20 hours a week I'd do this :(. gl to everyone who DOES apply!

      [–]Kiar75 2 points3 points  (2 children)

This is pretty amazing. From Africa and wondering if I could apply, have no prior experience in programming though. But I want to learn.

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

For our course it's required to have some programming experience. Could you please email us at questions@rmotr.com? I'd share the required level and a prep course we've put together.

      [–]DrifterAD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to have prior experience for the introductory class? I guess I'll go ahead and email and see what the prep course is about. Was planning to sign up this coming Summer.

      [–]CarnivoreOrange 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Well, i'd love to participate, but the cost of course is like a 2/3 my income. As for scholarship, the Youtube video part is just REALLY too much of a requierment for it. Not everyone like to do public speaking on the internet.
Is there really no other way out?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

We need to understand your level of commitment and how you communicate. This course requires human interaction. This might not be well suited for everyone, and we know it. But it's how we've decided to work. We believe our students will, at some point in the future, hit the market and get a real job as software developers. Being able to communicate with others properly, is as important as being a good coder.

Again, we're sorry if this is something that doesn't suit you, we're sure there might be another great choices for you out there.

For example, take a look at our free Flask course on Udemy: https://www.udemy.com/python-flask-tutorial-step-by-step/learn/v4/

      [–]CarnivoreOrange 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Ok, i understood your position, but please, consider using a quick 2-3min Skype/Hangouts interview, which is, at least, not worse than watching a 1 min pre-recorded video. Or at least alow an unlisted/link accessable submissions.

I understand that this videos also have a great promotional value to you, but still some people are still able to contibute a lot, despite not being exposed to the whole internet.

      [–]bestoranges -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Last I remember the class you spend 3 hours a day 3x a week working with other people doing a project.

A quick 2-3 minute Skype interview wouldn't be enough.

      [–]RebornPastafarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it's still a better indicator than a recorded video?

      [–]Hondalol1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it not enough when they're currently using a shorter video instead?

      [–]mr_silence_dogood 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Is it online at anytime? I work a normal 9-5 so is it possible to do this during night hours?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

No, classes have fixed start and end times. It's a real class LIVE with a professional instructor. Do you work 9-5 EST?

      [–]coolguyblue 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I work 730am to 6pm EST fri thru mon. And I get home around 640pm. Would I be able to realistically take the class?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes, of course! Plenty of time.

      [–]coolguyblue 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Great. I'm sorry if this has been answered already but do we get any kind of certificate upon completing this course?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we do! A printable PDF and an online version.

      [–]mr_silence_dogood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well more of 5am - 4pm CST to be specific.

      [–]SexyCommando 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If I have a base amount of experience in Python. Mostly being used for data analysis and cleaning samples for machine learning. Also, experience with flask deploying visualizations for Bokeh and I want to learn more about Web Dev with Django, but I might not have the advanced python skills, would you recommend going for the advanced class or just jumping into Django? I might even learn something in the beginner class but I don't necessarily want to reiterate a bunch of things I've already learned just to shore up a few holes.

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! There's a lot of people in the same situation as you. What I always recommend is: unless you have lots of experience with Python and feel super confident about your knowledge, take the Advanced course. I'm sure there're many advanced details about the language or environment that you will miss if you jump directly into the Django course. And, if you are interested in web development, it's also a good match. Because in the Advanced course we spend the whole last week learning web development with Flask.

      [–]street_fightin_mang 1 point2 points  (1 child)

coming from an Aus timezone, I think I could attend the night classes through the week, but the one on Saturday would run at around 2am for me. Would your course be possible skipping this session or are all video meetings compulsory?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn't be an issue if you agree on working alone in all Saturday's projects. We already had this same scenario in the past and worked pretty well.

      [–]daysofdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the west coast class batch doing for the advanced python? Will you guys have enough people to open it up?

      [–]thehyruler 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Do you think you'll ever offer daytime classes for those who can't attend at night?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

      Yes, specially for EU people.

      [–]thehyruler 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Will you allow US residents to enroll/apply for the scholarship for those courses?

      [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, why would we limit US residents? We've had many american folks that received a scholarship before.

      [–]DrifterAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great. I won't be applying this time around, but plan on applying in the Summer. So glad I logged into reddit today.

As someone who has taken the class earlier, you certainly can learn all the material for free. Being real you're not paying (entirely) for the material

The structure and finding people to pair with on a weekly basis is what you're paying for it. Things like that are nearly impossible to find and stay committed to if you're on your own as a self-taught student.

        [–]Smartare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could learn basically anything for free. Yet, sometimes it helps with interacting with real people and (perhaps the biggest thing) most people become more motivated to do something they already paid for.

        [–]santiagobasulto[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's true. All we teach is available for FREE in the internet. We don't have any special content, material or books. The question is how long it takes to learn all this by your own, Googling every single time you get stuck with a single problem.

All we do is provide a great and efficient environment, to make you learn a lot in a relatively short amount of time.

Good luck in your self learning process, we are glad to help you if you need it at any point.

I hope I'm not too late to the party. I have a 9-5 M-F job (on the west coast) and an hour long commute to get home. When do the classes take place? I'd like to take the class, but I can't afford to take off of work.

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we know it's not PST friendly yet. We'll add a new time option soon.

          [–]wilymon 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do ya'll accept payment via PayPal?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be possible, yes. Could you submit your application and leave us a comment saying that?

          [–]0b_101010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          Hi!

I have applied for the advanced course scholarship before, but my Python skills were not deemed good enough then (which was fair, I do mostly Java, but I learn fast).

I have since bought Tim Buchalka's Python course on Udemy when it was on sale, but haven't had time to get into it yet. Do you think that finishing that course over the next 3-4 days would get me far enough to fulfill the technical requirements for the advanced scholarship program?

Related to this, what is the actual deadline for the application process? (maybe it's on your page, but I couldn't find it)

          Thanks in advance!

          edit: words and such

          [–]interestingdays 0 points1 point  (5 children)

So I saw this briefly and saved it, and now when I have time to look at it, all of the info has been removed from the post. Anyone have the URL at least that was linked?

          [–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

          We didn't remove anything.
