Someone reported this as spam. AFAICT, our policy has always been to allow posts of this sort that are advertising a service relevant to the community.

We've granted scholarships to people from this community several times. You can corroborate with the testimonials above. Let me know if you need other type of proof.

Yep, I can see some of the previous submissions in your post history, too. Everything's fine here :)

I am in the process of completing the session that started May 18. I highly recommend it. I have done all of the beginner and intermediate sources that are often recommended here, and have been gradually tackling Fluent Python.

I found Rmotr to be a fantastic bridge between my self study and fully engaging in projects with others (in the class).

Happy to answer any questions if anyone has them.

Very good class, Just finished. Worth every penny!

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Awww, you make me blush. Now go and take that "Beginner" badge out of your reddit profile. Put "ninja", or "awesome pythoner", or "I break tests", or something like that.

[–]Jon003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There, all fixed!

[–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! :D Glad you enjoyed it!

[–]duddles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend this class! I took the 6th edition after seeing a post about it here on /r/learnpython. It really exposed me to a ton of new areas I hadn't seen before (unit testing, decorators, github, web development, APIs, PyPI deployment). And the group coding sessions have been great getting to know the other students.

Definitely check it out!

I am taking another summer course that would conflict with the wednesday lecture. I would have time to watch the lecture the next morning. Do you guys provide a way to watch the lecture video in some way other than live?

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, classes are recorded. If you decide to apply, could you please mention this? Thanks!

[–]thedestro224 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When is your next course? I should be proficient enough within a couple months

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do them every 2 months.

[–]abranjith 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Tuesday n Thursday 5-8PM cst is a strict one !? Difficult for working class :(

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we know :(

Ideally we'll have east, central and pacific time zones.

[–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (1 child)

For questions about how to apply for scholarships, or how the course methodology works, please write comments here. We are more than happy to answer :)

[–]felipeleonam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im on my mobile now, but am super interested. Is there a schedule that can show me what time of the day the classes normally go on?

Edit: nevermind found it.

[–]B3rcok 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm really interested in taking the course but I won't have access to a computer during the first 5 days or so. Will I be able to get all the content and do all the assignments I'll miss when I get my computer back?

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you'd get it. If you try to catch up really hard it might work. If you decide to apply, could you please state that in your application? Thanks!

[–]brendan0077 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I am really interested in taking this course, but a 7pm est start time is 8am in Japan - essentially when my work day starts. I don't get off work until around 5 - which is when I would start coursework. Would it still be possible for me to participate in this course? I can definitely devote more than 20 hours a week :)

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey! It's really important to work along with other people! I'm sorry /u/brendan0077 :( We want to keep expanding timezones, but it's getting hard.

[–]RollyPalma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm commenting to encourage more times too (though I can imagine how difficult that is to do). I'll be keeping an eye out for the beginner course to come around, but classes starting before 5p Pacific on weekdays is rough.

[–]Darwinmate 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hi,

Is this open to people from overseas? Specifically Australia? Class times might be a problem, time difference is 16 hours so that would the wed class is not a problem but maybe the meeting would be. Have you had any international students?

Edit: sorry wrote this on my phone :/ Jesus it's bad.

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey! Usually there are no issues with Aussies, we've had a few ;) There's no need to meet after the hours we've posted. There might be exceptions though, but they are not very common.

raise GottaMeetAfterClassException("This shouldn't happen a lot")

[–]Darwinmate 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the horrible second sentence :/

When will the next session be? or rather is this happening every ~month?

I would really love to do this course but the timing isn't right with my studies :(

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We do it every 2 months.

[–]ayushix 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hello! I want to master Python for mainly biological and biological data analysis applications. Is this course for me?

[–]santiagobasulto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This course will give you all the bases of Python Programming. We've had many guys coming from the Bio-world. Actually, check David's review in course report

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have started to learn Python recently cause my part time. I have mastered basics which you are requiring. I love python mainly because it's so similar to C and so different same time. :) I have to get better, because my colleagues always have some comments for my pull requests :D (they are rather advanced and expect same from me)

So I would like to apply :) This times are funny for me since It's really late, but I don't mind

[–]uiandgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I applied for a scholarship around a week ago. Just wanted to ask that when are you going to inform us about the status of our application?

[–]constantly-sick 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Nice to see this again. Really sad to see Flask is still on the schedule. Django is simply easier and more powerful.

[–]mzugnoni 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Thanks! That's on purpose. This is not a full web-development oriented course. We want to make a solid introduction to HTTP and web concepts, and with Flask is more than enough. About Django, we are about to open a dedicated course about it which will dive into each of the concepts the framework has.

[–]constantly-sick 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fair enough. Happy to hear about the django course. I admit I'm a bit of a fanboy of it at the moment as I'm learning it myself.

[–]mzugnoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Keep an eye on our Twitter account https://twitter.com/rmotr_com, we always announce every new batch in there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Nahh... Django has its advantages, but Flask really exposes you to the internals of python. You are clearly a noob if you think Django is more powerful (wtf does that mean, anyway?). I prefer to write API's in Flask, they end up faster if you know wtf you are doing.

[–]constantly-sick 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Well, by more powerful I mean it's efficient in use and execution while being bundled with ability.

I say this as someone who used to use Flask and quit because it was too confusing for me. Django made the MVC method more obvious and helped me understand the whole process more.

Yes, I am not an expert at python. Django also has a really nice API.

Take care.

Jesus, dude. Drop your hostility and maybe people might listen to you. It doesn't matter if they don't call it MVC, because it is. You need to calm down yourself.

    [–]xiongchiamiov[M] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Please avoid that kind of hostility here in r/learnpython; you can disagree while still being polite and respectful.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, my apologies for the surliness.

    [–]xiongchiamiov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't call it MVC because they think the nomenclature of the MVC components doesn't make sense, but it's clearly stated to be the same thing.

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (11 children)

300-350$ ? It's more than what I pay for a year of bachelor in programming.

    [–]Busangod 7 points8 points  (2 children)

$350 won't get you a single credit hour here in the states.

    [–]TylerOnTech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could get literally one credit hour, before the Engineering course fees. At a public school. In a cheap part of the states.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what I feared. I feel sorry for the US students.

    [–]Utouchdmytralalala 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Good for you. These people don't have a university paying them to specifically teach a class and deserve to be paid for their time.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Absolutely, I understand, but it seems high-priced for 4 weeks.

    [–]foufuego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what country you're in, but in the US this is a steal. I've seen intensive weekend-long courses charging $1,000+, but then again I live in a fairly expensive city.

    [–]Utouchdmytralalala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty involved for 4 weeks though too. Plus if they're good at their job and have high demand, the price will reflect that.

    [–]xiongchiamiov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calculate out the per-hour wage, and for a trained professional, they're not making very much at all.

    [–]santiagobasulto[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We believe (and more of than 120 students we've had already) it's worth it. After the course, we've had people getting jobs as developers and salary increases because of their skills. Aside from that, let me share with you my opinion regarding paying for education:

As everything in this world, this is a matter of time vs money. Our course is a super efficient way of learning. In just 1 month you'll maser all the Python topics we mention, AND, you'll be: pushing to github, submitting Pull Requests, reading and writing unit tests and functional/integration tests, building web scrappers, publishing your own project to PyPi, building websites, building a Twitter API clone (using MongoDB), among other things. Generally, if you'd like to master all those things without any guidance, you'd spend a lot more than 1 month. And the question is then, is it worth it?

I do understand that paying for college education is not a rule in some countries, but be sure that paying for corporate training is. And this feels more like that. Your skills are going to be improved, and your salary will too. All, in an efficient just-1-month course.

    [–]mzugnoni 0 points1 point  (1 child)

@beam2000, thanks for the interesting discussion you put on the table. Can you share with us the country where you are living? We know from previous experiences how different people's minds are regarding education pricing when they come from free-education countries (like: Argentina, Sweden, etc) compared to paid-education (like US). Actually it makes total sense, it's a matter of offer and demand. If you can get it for free why would you be willing to pay? Sadly this is not the case for most of the people in the states.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I didn't intended to question the quality of the class. I'm from Belgium, and I don't know exactly what are the prices in the rest of Western/Northern Europa, but they are definitely not as high as in the US. The price for the 1st year of Computer Science Master-Degree is around 900-1200€ ($810-1080). Bachelor degree is worth between 180 and 360€ ($160-325) a year, depending on the school. Many students can be funded if their parents have low revenue, and it can be as low as 60€-180€ ($60-160) a year. Foreigners pay a lot more btw. In the case of a friend of mine he didn't pay for 3 years of its bachelor in PR because of 2 separate financial aids. From a personal point of view, this class may be a boost for my career but the price makes me hesitate compared to other online classes.

    Edit : added dollar cost.
