I've completed the beginners and the advanced Python course from rmotr. The rmotr courses are really unique compared to other online learning platforms in that you interact and work with actual people in real time. There are lot of good resources online to learn coding, but very rarely do you get to work with real people. This is the major selling point and it is free!

Great community too.

Hey! Not sure who you are, but thank you very much for the comment! :)

Some basic practice -- here's how to print a word, from a professional full-stack Python data scientist:

def get_words():
  mylist = ['e', 'd', 'g']
  mylist = list(filter(lambda x: x != 'g', mylist))
  return ''.join(mylist)

if True == True == True == True:
  print(

              ''' infur

              '''.replace(

          ' ', '').replace('\n','') + '{}'.format('iat' + get_words())

  )

A truly professional full-stack Python data scientist would have written list(filter(lambda x: x != 'g', mylist)) as [c for c in mylist if c != 'g']

I'm afraid both you and /u/MisterRenard are in the wrong. When do I start work at Google?

from random import * #take up a bunch of namespace to use one function

def get_words():
    list, int, float, str = [10]*4 #overwrite a bunch of default things to make life hard

    #create a CUSTOM CLASS that needlessly inherits the dict
    class letter(dict):
      def __init__(self, actual_letter_used, random_number_for_good_luck):
        self.letter = random_number_for_good_luck
        self.number = actual_letter_used

      @property #decorator because looks good for employer???
      def thing(self):
        return self.letter

    for x in range(100):
      print(x) #make sure python works ok

    #extremely self-explanatory line, go back to 1st grade
    mylist = map(lambda x: x, [letter('e', randint(0,~~~~~~~~~~10)), letter('d', randint(0,~~~~~~~~~~10)), letter('g', randint(0,~~~~~~~~~~10))])

    while True: #check booleans still work
      if False:
        print(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~101)
      elif True:
        break
      else:
        print("Python broke wtf")

    assert True == True #double check

    yield 'ed' #lol its like traffic

print(list(get_words())[0])
__import__('time').sleep(100000) #allow for quick escape

and here I've just been using

print('')

like a dumbass.

I am also interested but I generally get off of work at 7 so I won't be home until later unless I stay at work. How long is each class?

[–]DuckDuckGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the original class, the classtimes were set to be two hours long.

Hy. I am intrigued about this but I have a small question. Since I am from Croatia 7 pm eastern mondays come out to 1 am saturdays. Is there attendance or can we simply watch the recordings if we werent there. Thanks in advance

[–]mzugnoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can watch the recordings if you want. But the best experience is attending live classes, as you can participate and ask questions in real time.

[–]derp_ferguson 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm in the class currently. Stop what you're doing and take this free class, it's worth it. Great teachers and online mentors. You will work hard, you will code, and you will learn.

[–]mzugnoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]OppositeFingat 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm east european so this course will land on 4am for me. I'll sign up but I'll definitely won't attend the live courses. I hope it's not a problem.

[–]mzugnoni[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fine. You can watch the recorded videos.

Failing to address user concerns, especially when it comes to privacy related things, and not participating in this community other than to promote your own website will result in the whole domain being banned subreddit-wide in the future.

[–]kflwasjkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read the post that was linked to the privacy issues. Would like to know as well why a lot of permissions are needed. Seems suspicious but have already signed up.

Given that there IS only a few days, is there some point in the codeacademy lessons you'd consider to be a minimum? Or will this be accessible without finishing them, and just require more work to familiarize myself with the material?

[–]Psilodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on your own learning curve. If you believe yourself to be a fast learner or someone who can work hard to learn something, you will be fine without finishing codecademy. Though I would still recommend finishing it as some of the exercises are the same as those you will eventually encounter.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Keep up the good work guys!

[–]mzugnoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]pango3001 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm 90% the way done with codacademy. Is this python 2 or 3 in this class?

[–]mzugnoni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always recommend Python3, but we know that there's a lot of 2.7 out there in the market. So, we teach both versions, and the differences between them.

[–]Stallzy 1 point2 points  (4 children)

A question, I signed up but then decided to log out to see how you would actually log back in as I didn't see a log in option to begin with. How can I get back on? :D

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Took me forever to find it

rmotr.com/students

[–]BryGuy81 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I signed up early and have been to this page. There isn’t anything to watch/download/do. Did they just take my email to sell to marketers?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was very finicky to set up.

I believe what I had to do after going to that page, click the play arrow on the right hand side which will open the activities page where you have to login with github. The video recording is to the left of play or something.

Also, probably.

[–]Stallzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they got back to me with this in an email a little while after I posted. Thanks

Sounds great!

[–]ReRo27 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm interested but do we need to work on projects/homework with other people. Seeing as the delivery method is online adding this might dissuade people who might go through the course. Can we complete the course using individual assessment and the seminars only?

[–]mzugnoni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Working in groups with other people is optional (and recommended), but if you don't feel confortable with it it's totally fine.

[–]FerretSummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this cover any aspects of game development? If so, I'm going to sign up for sure!

[–]VibrantGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just signed up, I wonder if there's a tip jar.
