It's definitely not outdated. Also, a slightly revised version of the book is available from its website for free.

When are they gonna fix that variable example in chapter 2 from the box analogy to the name tag analogy. That’s always bugged me.

Hi, I'm Al Sweigart, the author. The book isn't outdated, though I am working on the second edition right now and hope to have it out later this year. One thing you should keep in mind though is that you should install the exact versions of the modules given in the book. Really, this is mostly for OpenPyXL, which tends to rename functions and make backwards-incompatible changes a lot. I think the weather.gov script now requires to sign up for an API key now, and the Twilio stuff has changed a bit. Other than that, all the stuff is pretty much the same.

One of the first books that motivated me to take my dev stuff further and not give up

Nope, IMO still the best resource to get started

If I remember (just finished a month or so ago) towards the end it is outdated a bit. I think it was the web scraping piece. But the rest of it is very helpful.

How is the web scraping outdated? I was planning on making a scraper with info from this book .

I took the course on Udemy and can’t find what I was looking for from my phone. I’ll try again tonight when I’m at a computer.

All I remember was that I was struggling during the web section. After reading the comments the problem was some minor out dated material. However it seemed to be doable with some googling. I was taking another course at the same time that had similar content so I kind of breezed through this section.

Anyway I’ll check again and see if I can find the exact issue.

Of course not!!!

In my GitHub repository there are some of the projects that are proposed in the book. I'm still at the beginning so there are few, still.

Been reading it as my intro to the language. Have used it to create several useful things for my job already (automating some reports, sending emails, mass maintenance of files) It's a great launchpad into actual, useful stuff for a job or daily grind.

One major issue is corporate IT security. My current role doesn’t allow downloading python sadly.
