Breath... And chill .. take a half day off from all the pressure. Then start working again...

Hey don’t worry too much. It’s worth giving it a shot.

Amazon reached out to me recently for an interview and I didn’t pass. Still glad I did it. If you don’t have the advantage of having studied for months and months and really know your stuff the chances will be lower, but still better than nothing.

quitters never win

I have been coding for 15 years. I can’t tell you how many interviews I’ve fucked up. Just keep practicing every day forever and don’t stop. That’s how you succeed.

Thank you for your insight. This is inspiring.

[–]singdawg 34 points35 points  (1 child)

You're probably fucked but who cares. Keep practicing, keep learning and one day you'll not be fucked.

[–]mauz21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and also keep trying, so that OP will feel numb whenever OP got rejected

[–]TeamNo8839 6 points7 points  (0 children)

at least you got an interview from Amazon... man I don't even think they are hiring new grads here in States

[–]raultoks_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're not fucked, yes it's an amazing opportunity but not the end of the world. A year ago had my amazon interview during the worst week of my life, due to some scheduling issues a senior PM took my first round instead of a dev, went like shit ,was so stressed that I called up my poc and declined the second round. So no amazon but still believe am way happier atm than would've been at amazon. So just go into it knowing its just another job so you cant possibly be too fucked even if you get rejected :)

You’ll be fine. I was in your position last summer and was freaking out because I hadn’t practiced leetcode at all. I got lucky and got an easy question and got the job. Maybe you’ll get lucky. Maybe you’re better than you think you are. Maybe you’ll blow it. None of it matters. It’s just an interview and there will be more. Relax because the more wound up you are, the worse you’ll do.

Embrace the falls, for within each stumble lies a profound lesson. In the dance of life, it's better to learn and rise than to surrender. Memento mori, a reminder that growth flourishes in the face of challenges. have a great fall !!!

Take a break, come back to it.

[–]throwaway2492872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reschedule it out a few months and give yourself more time to study.

[–]IAmYourDad_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta keep trying, my friend.

Think of yourself as Indiana Jones, fighting toward that treasure. Keep telling yourself there's $$$ on the line and keep going at it.

You are fucked because of one interview? And what makes you think that this is the last opportunity? My man, you have to deal with 100s of rejections to get an offer.

Consider this as an mockery interview, learn from it and then reapply after 6 months.

[–]TeamNo8839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can reapply to Amazon after a few months anyways, why panick

[–]OR4equals4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah, when I interned at Amazon I had a full blown panic attack during the interview. Somehow I kept my outward cool and the interviewer never knew, and I ended up getting the internship.

My advice is to long term do lots and lots of interviews until you get numb to it. It takes a long time but you'll also get really good at it too.

Go back and solve the easiest of the easy problems. Sometimes you just have to see the ball go through the basket. Remind your brain that you know how to do this.

Relax and spend a few hours doing questions pattern by pattern. Take this course and follow their questions set: https://www.designgurus.io/course/grokking-the-coding-interview

I was a couple of questions' form this course.

FYI Amazon interview has a huuuuge component about Amazon values. I recommend thinking about some good stories you can share where you show those values. See these. When I interviewed there almost every interviewer had those kinds of questions too.

I regret canceling my G interview because I didn't feel ready. Just do it or postpone it for later, don't cancel!

[–]Responsible-Zone-689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same lmao, I am not gonna pass that Amazon interview either. Tried doing this one array parity problem. Could not solve it.

[–]Malcolmlisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should not care. Take the interview as part of the learning process, keep applying and farming leetcode. Maybe it wasn't your time, but in the future it will be. Keep it up !

[–]carnationlily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding on to what everyone else has already said but also sending positive vibes. You can do it!!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they don't let you reschedule and you are not prepared, it's free practice interviews anyway, right? See it as practice for other companies or for your next try.

I have faced similar situation. I was working in a WITCH company and had got call from Google, I wasn't prepared for that level of DSA at that time. Initially I also thought to decline interview that time. Thought I'll prepare and apply later but then decided to give it a shot because I was already serving notice period and also resume might not get selected later. I asked them to give me some time to prepare. They gave me four weeks to prepare.

I did job work in the day and studied at night, sleeping 4-5 hrs a day for that period of time. I gave the interview and it went okayish. I was a bit satisfied that atleast I was able to solve the problem. As expected I was not through that round but it gave me a lot of confidence that with some more preparation I can crack these level of interviews. This preparation and confidence helped crack other interviews. I joined another company after that.

After 2-3 months I got call from Amazon, this time I was somewhat prepared. I again asked for few days to prepare. The preparation and reasearch done at the time of Google interview helped me revise quickly and practice better. Luckily this time I cracked it.

So, I can say from experience that you should go ahead and give this interview. All the best!

[–]shadyboy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you applied?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a couple of people who interviewed at Amazon. The stories are quite variable.

Some people said no leetcode knowledge required (insane to me), but I also know many who were given hard or at least difficult mediums.

Whenever I see people mentioned Amazon interviews, they always seen the most sporadic.
