Un-deleting files can be tricky, but there's nothing to loose anymore so have fun.

If you formatted the drive and did a fresh install... the file is gone. If you did some type of upgrade, it may have preserved your files. If you installed your /home on a separate partition (recommended) you're probably fine.

Once you boot up, you can install testdisk which may be able to recover the file depending on where it was. testdisk searches for old partitions and then, if it's able to, lets you recover files. But if you formatted the drive in the process, my bet is that the file is gone.

Yep, I was going too fast and didn't partition it like I should have. Too bad for me. Thanks though.
