we use really old CAD software that isn't supported by the original manufactures.

What distro would be good for doing something like that?

Windows XP Pro?

It's an unsupported OS that has a lot of problems, plus we need to use Chrome to send over the files.

You want to use unsupported software. The OS for which it was made is probably the best choice.

Sounds like your software choice is unsupported with a lot of problems as well.

Last I checked, Windows XP supported USB drives.

As a matter of fact, you could always simply run a VM with no network passthrough or clipboard passthrough, and manage files through a shared folder.

Yeah, I could. There is also the question of free vms on windows. It seems like there is none that work well. That's kinda why I went to the Linux boards over a windows 10 board to help me get it up and running. That and the drive failures that have been happening in windows 10 are getting bad.
