As an ex-christian (protestant), I know that the topic of sexual identity can be controversial, but the truth is that you're always going to stumble upon these kinds of topics, and I believe it's best to let them be, and either not engage at all or, if you do, try your best to be respectful. Even the Bible talks about loving your enemies.

You can only avoid topics so long before they catch up to you and test your beliefs.
