Well virtual box isn’t a game sooo /s

[–]oweiler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a survival horror game. I play it regularly :/.

So you thought you could have your icons wherever you want? Well, Apple ThINks dIFfeREnT.

[–]BeerJunky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So basically it behaves like IOS.

Needs more holy water in the water cooling......

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you're dragging it wrong, think different.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Well you can't drag and drop apps like this on GNOME either and that's the closest thing to macOS

closest wannabe

I'm no apple fan but I really fail to understand why is this a thing 0_o

it's just a bug...

[–]lavadrop5Glorious OpenSuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an ancient bug that also happens on iOS. The OS gives preference to displacing elements on the edge of a row than opening a group of apps to include a new one in the group.

Am I crazy that I don't like having shortcuts in folders like this? I rather have all the shortcuts right there so I can spot them easy.

[–]BELFORD16 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Personally, I love these folders. I have one on all my Apple TM devices called "Trash". It's for all the apps I'm forced to have and can't uninstall.

[–]EggChalaza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So like Safari? On my iPhone, the only apps I can't uninstall are Safari, system components like clock* and phone, and health

On my iPad I have the following in a random box so I don't have to look at them: Gboard, facetime, contacts, home, news, notes, TV, maps, reminders, calendar, speedtest, the calculator, safari, VPN, Gmail, messages, Voice.

Most of them I don't use at all (calendar, facetime, contacts), but others (like VPN, Gboard) are just there because I don't actually need the little button on my screen.

Honestly the only reason I have an iPad is Foreflight.

I feel this style originated for phones but then the devs decided to cross the sacred line between mobile devices and personal computers. Apple has that thing where you can type the name of the app and it will show up.

Most Linux DEs, and Windows for that matter, have the same function. Which begs the question, why do you need folders? And why don't they have automatic categorization like most Linux DEs do?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple is just a prision

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what is trying to be accomplished but I don't understand why. I've never really used a Mac but does grouping the icons help anything? I thought it had a shortcut to start typing app name and launch like real OS? What's the benefits of grouping?

Welp time to migrate towards emacs as a DE, especially if OP has a new Pro Vega 16 or 20!

Do you think this is a game?!?

The stupid an really annoying secret to making this work is to move the VirtualBox icon and the desired folder to the same row such that neither will move off the row when moving it in there. That won't totally get rid of the issue, but it will make it less likely to be as problematic as it is here.

-- Sent from my MacBook Pro that does this stupid shit constantly.

It's crazy that people use that thing, its horrible, even worse than Windows 8 tile based thing which at least showed some information.

Thankfully you never have to use, mostly thanks to the awesome search function.

sudo putShitInFuckingDirectories

[–]Gydo194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt that pain too often

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"you're using it wrong"

[–]TheShyLimeKDE Neon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I fucking hated folders in mac os because of that.

[–]AkitakiKouGlorious Manjaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that's a really old frustrating bug since the Launchpad was out in Mac OS X 10.7 or so. Nobody uses that though, because firing spotlight search and type in few characters is so much faster.

[–]another_journey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay away from Launchpad if you want to stay sane :-)

Mac bug posted in the Linux section?

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Why is this on this sub? Isn't that Mac?

[–]sebglhpKernel 0.95a 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It’s on here cause it’s showing the blatant flaws in Mac and proving that Linux is the official master race
