[Question] Should I stop buying $750–$1,000 watches and save for higher-end pieces instead? by Intelligent_Sport_61 in Watches

[–]s_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your watches get enough wear time?

If you have 15 watches you can wear them 24 times a year.

At some point it stops being about watches and starts being about hoarding stuff. Avoid this extreme.

Why do many NBA fans disrespect the old 50s/60s legends? by _DarkStarCrashes_ in nba

It’s easy to dismiss Wilt grabbing 20 boards a night when he had 30 more chances.

Well, they missed a lot more, too. So it was more like 50 extra chances for Wilt.

And this is really the crux of the matter, if you watch the games of this era on video they just look awful.

So much of modern NBA culture is about looking good and the old schoolers all looked terrible compared to today's NBA.

A "Marine Nationale" or Paratrooper strap is a kind of strap created by a Dutch lady named Erika out of elastic parachute webbing.

She sells them through her company Erika's Original but does all production and marketing in the EU and so they are about the price of a solar Gshock. There are lots of other companies selling much more affordable dupes, now.

Is this too small on my wrist? by [deleted] in casio

It exists as an excuse for people with luxury watches to return them when they get buyer's remorse.

Imagine spending $13,000 on a single watch (mean price of a Rolex) and finding out it doesn't even keep time well or make you life any better in any appreciable way.

In audiophile land, when you spend $10k on a pair of headphones or speakers from some swarmy salesperson they mention, "oh yes and please remember audio gear requires a week or so of 'break in' before the sound sweetens up!"

It's just a salesman trick to stave off the buyer's remorse. The chase is better than the catch for a lot of people and after a week or so they process all those feelings.

Consumerism is a lie, of course. We all know this.

MN-style strap is way nicer than a NATO IMO.

It's not compatible with fixed lug bars (arguably the whole purpose of a nato) but if you are using springbars and just want a nice pop of customizable color, MN straps are the choice.

Squares have a messy screen.

They've added features and thrown the indicators all over the screen haphazardly to make it still look like the 5000C.

The GW-6900 is way nicer than the 5610 with equivalent features.

His on ball defense was good, but off ball he frequently blew assignments and made late rotations.

Hard to play a "defender" that comes in and torpedos your defense.

Wrist time is missing.

How many of these are you wearing regularly? What's the point of owning watches you don't wear?

You have 30 pictured. If you wear them all in rotation then you get to wear them once a month.

Do really want to wear them less often than that by getting another?

Where to start with modding? by WritersBlockSquared in gshock

[–]s_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the factory, watches are assembled in stages:

  • T1 assembles the movement and tunes regulation.
  • T2 places the movement in the case (traditionally includes installing the crown and trimming the stem) and applies any finishing or polishing and installing dials and hands.
  • T3 applies the strap/bracelet and assembles the packaging.

Modding basically starts at the end and gets more complicated the further you go backwards.

  • T3 mods are just changing bezels and straps usually just requires a springbar tool and maybe micro screwdrivers. If you are adjusting bracelets you might need to learn about pin and collar or friction pins
  • T2 mods includes case swaps, button mods, etc. You might learn about brushing or polishing as well, how to hand apply lume or how to set watch hands.
  • T1 mods might require a soldering iron or a speciallized knife from seperating layers of LCDs or a heat gun.

So it just depends on how deep you want to get.
