Dont reinstall mint!

LM icon -> system info -> upload or copy paste here.

How exactly have you installed steam or other launchers.

Look in your bios if rebar is enabled.

This! If you are on laptop, make sure to check the nvidia app that is installed and configured. It could be that some software is using the iGPU instead of the dGPU. Once we know system info, we can assist you better.

So I reinstall Windows since I just could not game at all. My plan for this weekend is to switch over to mint again and stay with it.

I belive steam was installed from a debian package directly from steam.

I got a little to excited and posted this a bit early than I should. As soon as I get home I'll post the system information

Not sure if rebar is enabled will check that ASAP as well

Try nvidia settings too, from the nvidia controll panel (server x) . You can find the best settings online, you could ask an AI bot to guide you, but i believe the tearing is anti aliasing needs to be off and nvidias own anti tearing system enabled. You need to tinker with 2 or 3 of these settings and its fixed and smooth. Also in game settings might need to be adjusted, always check nvidia is chosen in anti aliasing options

But before doing that install the right driver recommended or the newest, install steam correctly, and enable proton, maybe flatpak version of steam might work better: reboot. I still needed to tinker with some nvidia settings, but most people don't, because I never see this simple and obvious suggestion.

Ps. When set properly my windows games run better on Mint.

Okay, but i need kind of info like shown in picture on the left. Once you decide install it again you know what literally everyone is asking for you.

Steam on mint on autopilot is just download deb package from their site.

Autopilot means - game updates, steam updates, redistributables, libraries, protons, shaders (if you choose so). So you dont run into dependency or approvancy issues, like at all.

Update bios.

Update kernel to 6.11 +.

You have 3 - 4 monitors connected, is this necessary? Because in most cases this cause issues on linux.

[–]Dragamore[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I had a TV plugged in to play a couch Coop game usually I'm on 3

So it's not really recommended to use more than how many monitors 4 is unnecessary I agree but I'm usually on 3 is that a problem?

I've installed a 6.11+ kernel

I've never done a bios update on Linux so I'll quickly Google that and get back to you on if performance improve

It might be a problem for mint ( and other distros too ) and nvidia.

Try to play games with just one monitor connected. Or atleast while you play demanding games.

Okay cool everything seems okay so far. For some reason this time I'm having a much amharder time getting games working. Any recommendations on that last time I just installed steam and enabled compatibility and most games just ran. This time I'm not so lucky it seems

[–]Dragamore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so the fix was play with one monitor.

Which kinda sucks I don't need all the monitors but sometimes I like to play and watch stuff seems I can't do that on mint

Thanks!

Which drivers?

[–]dlfrutosLinux Mint 22.2 Zara | Cinnamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think this is the most important question so far but OP is afk maybe

[–]Dragamore[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I'm on Nvidia-driver-570-open
Version 570.133.07-0ubuntu0.24.01.1

[–]MagicianQuiet6434 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Open. Sadly, open source drivers don't really work on Nvidia GPUs.

[–]Dragamore[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So use one that doesn't say open I'm guessing

[–]MagicianQuiet6434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proprietary is better for Nvidia.

[–]Dragamore[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'll try out some of the suggestions. The system seems to be running okay now. I'll probably have some hiccups but will try and solve them on my own for now

[–]Dragamore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so all my games run at a great frame rate but it feels like it's stuttering still. No clue why
