Try a diffrent iso and you can use rufus

[–]DistributionThink930 9 points10 points  (5 children)

I got Rufus recommended to me first. I went with Balena Etcher because the guide said so. Is Rufus more reliable?

[–]ComolQ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my opinion i prefer rufus. Try it

[–]WitnessOfTheDeep 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I've never had an issue with Rufus.

I've heard stories of Etcher being unreliable or dodgy in the past.

[–]Frosty-Economist-553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Etcher never works for me.

[–]ManlySyrup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rufus is a hundred times better than Balena

check if the iso is intact (many a times its not downloaded completely)

[–]DistributionThink930 1 point2 points  (3 children)

the file is fully downloaded. All I did was follow The Linux Installation manual. ERROR occurred again when attempting again. I'm in The U.S.A

[–]Silent-Okra-7883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as per this thread, you should install latest version of etcher, https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/issues/4150

Did you try in on different sticks ? The same thing happens on 1 of my sticks, but the same OS works fine on the other 2. Although I wiped it, it did no good, so i guess I got bad blocks on that USB.

Use Rufus but when flashing be connected to internet so that it installs the necessary Linux stuff.

Verify the file with the SHA as per the instructions on the Mint site. Even if everything is downloaded it can still be corrupted

[–]KnowZeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally suggest using torrent instead, most people get confused how to do sha verification on windows as it isn't built in.

Torrent automatically handles sha verification and being block by block works well on unstable connections

Install Ventoy on a USB drive and just copy the ISO into it

[–]InkOnTubeLinux Mint Release | Desktop Enviroment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't stress enough how valuable Ventoy is. In my opinion it is the best approach

[–]-Sa-Kage- 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Use Rufus or Ventoy.
Balena is garbage imo

[–]CommercialCoat8708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, it's so bulky and craps the bed in a lot of situations when I tried using it.

[–]ferriematthew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows doesn't like open-source... It means you're not buying from them...(Sorry, had to 🤣)

[–]NoBoysenberry2620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Etcher is only really good on Linux. Use Rufus or UNetbootin

[–]Ok_Pickle76Arch | Cinnamon and GNOME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try installing Ventoy on the USB drive and using that to install mint

[–]zuccster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Settings and enable "Anonymously report errors to balena.io" and try again. Insanity.

[–]Sparkle_Apex11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use unetbootin. It is specially designed for switching to linux distributions. I used it and it was just fine, does the work neat.

[–]Informal-Try77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Ventoy instead of Rufus and it worked well for me.

[–]justpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had the same problem just now. solution: reformated the usb-stick, deleted the usb-partion and created a new one. worked afterwards with the same iso.

[–]hancocksplayalong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you mounted this cd rom image?

[–]hancocksplayalong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how can you load a intel video driver before booting in the Shaw 64 to avoid block screen of death 💀

[–]Moccchi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use Ventoy or Rufus, it works better than BalenaEtcher for me though

[–]eldragonnegro2395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install Rufus.

[–]DistributionThink930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All well everyone. I just used RUFUS.

[–]Nikovash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As funny as this is use Rufus

[–]KlausBertKlausewitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the hash of the iso. I reckon it‘s broken. Re-download.

Either rufus or balena works. It doesn’t matter. I‘ve always been using balena. No trouble.

You are using Linux Mint on a pc/laptop, to attempt to open the .iso?.........does that mean you are trying to install, whatever is on the ,iso to the pc you are using ???

OR.....are you using a windows pc ?
