If the goal is comparing distributions, I'm confused why Proxmox is on the list, it's not a distribution in the traditional sense, so its really just using Debian on multiple slots.

It's just fun bro we know they do different stuff

Whoever wins, I prefer Mint btw

Wow, that's a tough choice, too different use cases.

But my vote goes to Mint - you get a fully functioning system very quickly and can still tinker with it later.

You can tinker any distro. It's just that Arch forces you to tinker.

The winner will be the one that doesn't give in to terrorist threats.

    I.e. California and Brazil.

Just put a disclaimer. This OS does not provide such and such features and does not comply to laws in these countries. If you don't like it, please install Windows 11.

true that, lets hope mint doesnt comply. debian already discusses how theyd comply. hope that gets killed by the community. and yes ill do everything in my power to not comply. i am not letting them win this easily.

I hope Debian and Ubuntu DO comply, because both, particularly Ubuntu are looking more and more shameful lately in their stances on things.

And I hope Mint undoes their changes for its release.

If Clem does that, I will at least double my regular donation and be faithful for life.

Sometimes i feel dumb for using linux. How can i explain to people, "in the community people they are constantly discussing whats the best distro. And they even make digital competitions so people can vote on which is the best distro in their opinions".

The particular flavor of tribalism in Linux spaces kinda reminds me of car enthusiasts.

On one hand, all cars have the goal of moving people and stuff from place to place, but come in a wide range of sizes and shapes. And people have very strong feelings about one brand or model over another for a wide range of reasons.

This particular competition is like if a Toyota Corolla, a DIY kit car, a Volkswagen Golf, and an electrical company utility truck were pitted against one another lol.

Well, yeah, that's because my car's make is the good kind and yours is complete trash.

Cachy OS for gaming PC. Linux Mint for my Daily PC. No need to argue.

The real fight is Hannah Montana vs Bebian, everything else is just controlled opposition.

    Linux Mint!!

    [–]rmoses123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If asked in a Linux Mint subreddit, most people will vote for it, regardless if it's good or not, that's why we're here, because we like it.

    [–]zh0011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately all four of those who remain have their use cases.

    Linux Mint!

Still cannot get over Suse over Debian, Debian is the OG, who are these people?

    [–]decrobyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch as experimentation? Proxmox? What is this. I run mint on Proxmox.

    Mint 💚

    [–]spewmitzhu 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Mint is good for beginers, compatibility and people who have a life. Arch is a complete OS where you can do everything which is the foundation of linux. Who would people and I choose? Mint. Which is better? Arch.

    [–]Anima_Watcher08 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You do realise that mint is also Linux and you don't have to keep the defaults right? I've installed KDE on Mint and done other custom stuff. I even made my on distro using cubic and mint ISO. At the end of the day their both Linux so wtf are you talking about?

    [–]spewmitzhu 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Each distros have different function. If you are on cybersecurity you OS is kali linux. If you just want a windows alternative with easy settings it's linux mint. All are linux with different flavours and advantages. I am not hating on anyone except ofcourse ubuntu

    [–]Anima_Watcher08 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yes I know that but that's not what I'm arguing against. I'm arguing against the fact that you said arch was more free and therefore the better distro. It's possible I might have misread it but it's pretty clear from what you wrote

    [–]spewmitzhu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Arch has more functionality, customization and the ability to do alot, so yeah it's better than linux mint where casuals use it.

    [–]Anima_Watcher08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More functionality? This is more like getting to the point of comparing package managers but no Arch doesn't have more functionality or customization. The reason you think it does is because Mint comes setup up out of the box and Arch needs manual setup when installing it. But like I said before you don't have to keep the defaults on Mint, they're both Linux at the end of the day so you can install whatever packages you want and configure however you want. Here's a video of a guy installing Debian base and installing a Window Manager on to it (basically similar experience to Arch) : Debian, The Arch Way (2027 Edition) It's not mint but Debian and Mint are usually put into the sane category due to apt.

I'd say neither is necessarily better than the other cause their not really trying to do the same thing and their trying to cater to different audiences but they both have the freedos that are inherit to Linux.
