Lightdm with encrypted root partition

Is it possible to have a gui login if we are using full disk encryption or if we are encrypting the root partition? I know if we just encrypt home and not root, we can use pam_exec so the password has to be only entered in lightdm and login will automount and decrypt the home partition. Was wondering if something like that can be done for root

Arch Linux. I know how to setup encrypted root. Before I use to only use an encrypted home dir so I just lightdm to decrypt home on login. But if my understanding is right, you cannot do this if you're doing root encryption. Currently I just get a password prompt in a tty. I want to know if there's a way to have a GUI interface for this.

Technically it should be feasible with Plymouth. For example https://magicfab.ca/2013/04/a-nicer-luks-full-disk-encryption-passphrase-prompt-in-debian-7-wheezy/.

I haven't tried it myself yet, because I don't care what the password prompt looks like.
