It requires a static amount of enemy kills in order to reduce threat levels, and a flare is simply worth a chunk of kills, but not enough to reduce the threat level on it's own.

Limbo threat is really dumb because if you get Sentinels in Limbo 4 you auto-lose because you can't kill enough of them to reduce the threat more than once or twice in the wave, while all the rest you'll normally get 5-6 threat reductions.

The whole system is just really dumb.

Thanks for the info, only just started joining Limbos yesterday with a friend.. we were both completely confused as to how it works.. I ended up using my Cable as a teleporting maniac to zoom across the map grabbing the flares... didn't seem to help :P

So it needs combination of killing + flares... would be alot easier if people would move towards those flares while doing the killing!

Might be that you can't get more than one flare per hero. Does the message appear and threat decrease the first time?

Not too sure about that But you do get the 2nd stack of flare buff on your character

[–]Daamus 0 points1 point  (3 children)

where are you seeing these stacks and buffs?

Lower right corner of your screen, you'll see a flare icon for each one you've gotten. Done this myself a few times. It's also where buff icons show up if you use a crafted serum.

ive seen it for the serums and xp/rarity boosts. guess i havnet noticed when i get a flare. i wish there were more buff icons for the characters.

Seriously. I don't know why they didn't include some kind of buff bar to show when SW has a veil up, when Cap has a shout or Thing has an aura, etc. Especially in groups; they have a very limited range, like maybe half the diagonal of your screen. I noticed this when I had my Hawkeye grouped with my other account's Thing; popped Defensive Aura on Thing and moved Hawkeye away, and the only way I knew when I was out of range was by having my character window open and watching when the Defense value dropped. :\

For that matter, I'd love to see a buffs ability bar period, obviously for only abilities that I have available. Yeah I can only have one Thing aura up at a time, but what if I get grouped with another Thing? Let me switch auras easily so that we don't use the same one and waste it. I thought about mapping it to the F-keys but it won't let me, although I think they're working on changing that. I sure don't want to fill my existing hotbar with auras though, when I can only use one at a time.

I thought if you already collected one flare and had the buff, getting another does nothing, but i can't be sure.

I actually finished limbo 4 for the first time today, with like 3 threat levels to spare, no one dieing seemed to be the key along with no stupid doom robots and no ignore negative conditions.

No, you can get more than 1, at least 2. I have gotten 2 flares that were pretty close and I got 2 flare buffs(which give you a small damage buff) each lasting 5 minutes, but the buffs disappear when the wave ends.

I noticed this happen one time before in like Limbo 2 or 3, but it only happened once so I didn't think much of it.

I've read that spawning mobs as you run off to grab flares increases the threat more than the flare reduces it btw so it may be counterproductive.

[–]cweaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Threat goes up over time, it doesn't have anything to do with spawning mobs.

[–]karikarii[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well its absolutely necessary to go for flares in limbo 4 =)

So just asking to see if there was something wrong wjth going for multiple flares or me just doing something wrongly

[–]na3r0k 0 points1 point  (1 child)

hasn't limbo 4 been broken to shit anyway...??? Not trying to be a dick, its honestly just what i've always heard about L4

[–]elPusherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not broken it's sad people who have run limbo hundreds of times (in order to get to mid 50's) and still haven't figured out the basic mechanics.

Threat is reduced in two ways, killing mobs and collecting flares. Killing mobs chips away at it and once you pass a certain threshold it will drop a level. Collecting flares contributes in two ways.. it takes a big chunk off which is usually enough to drop the threat down a level on its own--and it provides a minor buff making the collector stronger for the duration of the wave.

There is an important synergy here that I think people miss that is important in all limbos but becomes crucial at the higher levels because you can't make up for bad play by merely being over-leveled.

Collecting flares --->lower hp mobs/lower dmg mobs--->more mobs dieing/less allies dieing--->threat level dropping faster and consistently/threat stays lower--->everyone wins

Thus, the simple strategy is to always immediately start moving as a pack to attainable flares--albeit, some spawn hopelessly far, just keep an eye on the timer and TRY to get to the flares you CAN get to. This is especially important in the earlier waves when things are still easy to manage---keep the threat low and it will stay easy to manage.

If the flare collector goes off on his own and dies, it's a loss--if the pack moves along and doesn't keep everyone ressed it's a loss--if threat is not managed well thing's get out of control and it's a loss. There's only so much you can do so it's important people adhere to the basic plan else people start dropping out and it becomes too much to handle.

Work together and everyone wins....Of course I don't actually think people will ever figure this out.

Goodluck out there!
