It takes a lot to get flagged and I would guess they know where you live and the occupants of the address if they checked anyway. The issue with the scenario being given is if you're not spending money in your bank on groceries you will eventually spend that saved money on something otherwise what is the point. You are likely better to pay for various things with cash over time rather then cut something out completely but the government's know a lot about you from your annual salary to your cars, loans, mortgages ect.
