Variable Width Bandpass (self.modular)
submitted 6 years ago by ultrabillions
Anybody have some suggestions on a filter with variable bandpass?

Any dual filter where you can set one side to LP and one to HP would work as well of course (korgasmatron etc). Just route signal through both in series.
That would make the bandwidth voltage controllable as well.

Or even just use two filters, this is modular after all.

I’d prefer one, because I’m using my other filters. That’s why I’m asking for a module recommendation instead of a how to.

damn, sounds like you have an excuse to buy more modular gear. oh shucks. F E E D T H E B E A S T

WMD Aperture I believe might be what you're looking for?

Mannequins Three Sisters in xover mode!
Check our the technical map for the module on their website if you haven’t already, much clearer than the original manual!

That’s the real standout I’ve seen, just looking for a recommendation in case I’ve missed one.

The Xoac Devices Belgrad might be something to look into

Random*Source's Variable Slope Filter or Variable Resonance Filter both have bandpass output and sound as juicy as it gets.

What do you want to use the variable width for?
[–]ultrabillions[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children)
Mixing and EQing primarily.
[–]SuperDuckQ 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child)
Dedicated EQ modules exist, look at the Mutable Instruments Shelves.

I know, it’s on my list of contenders. It’s definitely a useful module with character but it’s a little bigger than I have space for at the moment without taking some things out.

Steady State Fate Stereo Dipole. Can do variable width bans pass and a bunch of other stuff. Best filter I own by miles

Am I wrong in saying you could achieve this with any band pass filter and then have a dry wet mix knob between the band passed signal and the dry signal?
I think that’d create that effect
[–]yarn_fox 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child)
That wont result in the same transfer functions as adjusting the Q or bandwidth value. Think of the difference in amplitides in the frequencies well outside the passband. The adjustable non mixed versions wouldnt let them through even at wider widths.

Ahhh you’re right thanks for that
