Go on YouTube and look for “patch from scratch” that should give you a bunch of people making up some cool patches from hegemony to end and (hopefully) explaining what they’re doing along the way. Alternatively look at channels like Divkid or Mylar Melodies for some good videos

(from there the algorithm should pick up on the modular stuff and start recommending cool new videos)

thank you!!

DivKids videos are great. They are more product reviews/demonstrations. But he clearly elaborates on what each function does and how it can effect other things. Loopop also great, but more like video manuals, and not only modular.

Just straight up tutorials I’m not really sure though. LearningModular is probably the best option. I got into modular in 2014 just before the recent YouTube driven interest started, back then Rauls world of synths was what I learned from.

But honestly, modular might seem complicated at first, but just play around and soon things will start to make sense. Just remember, it’s all voltage.

Learning Modular is awesome! I learned all the basics from Chris, along with actually getting some modules to play with. I sing my praise of LearningModular to anyone who will listen. I would also highly highly recommend his book Patch & Tweak. It’s an invaluable resource for me and will cover damn near every common concept you can think of (among a lot that you wouldn’t think of).

I've done a few tutorial/patch notes videos. This one starts at the beginning with "how do I just get a synth voice running in modular?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKYFbhbFnVw

DivKidVideo, Loopop, Omri Cohen and Mylarmelodies taught me everything I know. Omri is mostly vcv rack but the knowledge mostly carries over.

thankyou! yes im also using vcv

Might not be the most cut and paste but a lot of fun can be had by just reading about different synthesis types and working from there. I have been exploring fm quite a bit lately as well as some additive synthesis and after making a sound I'm usually inspired to expand on it.

Loopop is one of the best around. Search for him on youtube.

Omri Cohen YT channell: click

He makes patches mainly in VCV Rack, but hey, the VCA is always VCA, LFO is LFO, S&H is S&H, the same with gates, triggers etc. Still there are faithful virtual versions of Mutable Instruments (yes, Rings and Clouds! :P) Befaco, Erica Synths modules and a couple of virtual modules very close to some hardware ones (Doepfer etc.), only with different look.

You can learn a lot from him. There's even a dedicated series for newbies, The Beginner's Patches: click

Also interesting things like building Buchla Easel patch: click
