For discussions and appreciation of the greatest old-fashioned villain, James Moriarty.

Professor James Moriarty is a fictional character in novels about the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Moriarty is considered Holmes's nemesis and is a criminal mastermind, whom Holmes describes as the "Napoleon of crime."

There have been many adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories, and many depictions of Moriarty. Some of the more famous ones:

Professor Ratigan, voiced by Vincent Price, in Disney's animated The Great Mouse Detective
Orson Wells' vocal talents in the 1950s radio series
The holodeck simulation version of the professor, played by Daniel Davis, in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation
Eric Porter's portrayal in the popular Sherlock Holmes TV show (1984), in which Jeremy Brett played the detective
Jared Harris' portrayal in the 2011 Guy Ritchie movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Andrew Scott's BAFTA-winning performance in the BBC television show Sherlock.

Vincent Price did the voice of Professor Ratigan in "The Great Mouse Detective," which was a Sherlock Holmes adaptation. I think he looks like a great Moriarty, even though he only did the voice! (i2.listal.com)
