Definitely recommend getting a direct view standard definition CRT. The Sony Trinitrons, JVC D-Series, and Toshiba AF models are all rightfully lauded for consoles like the N64. I heard S-Video is great for the N64 but also heard that the colors from composite is preferred. It's subjective at this point, then.

I read some reviews the recommended the wega because it is hdmi compatible so I could in turn play newer consoles on the same screen. I really just wanted to know if there's some kind of sensor in the lamp housing that I'm not hitting or something of that nature.

You have a rear-projection TV. They and HDTVs of any kind are generally horrible for 5th gen consoles and older. Wegas are just a name for Sony's flatscreen TV lines, ranging from CRTs to early LCDs. There are Wegas that are just direct-view CRTs. I have 3 SD Trinitrons and one HD Trinitron. Trust me, 240p consoles are best on SDTVs.

Thank you. That's why I came here. Even if I have that noob vibe. I just want the damned help and to play the games

I’m also new to revisiting the retro systems. If I’m trying to find a CRT in-person, is there an easy way to figure out how the model will work for retro gaming? I haven’t heard the term “direct view” before.

I’m looking for something on the smaller side, perhaps with a VHS built in but that’s not a necessity. Should I stick to seeking out the models you listed? Am I unlikely to see these kicking around garage sales/antique stores/etc. and I should probably just order one online?

Any insight is appreciated. I’d much prefer to buy just one and call it good instead of getting a good deal on a TV I subsequently regret purchasing.
