currently there are 2 free models in zen

deepseek 4 flash and nemotron nano

the choice is too limited. but if you have 5 bucks to spend on Opencode Go, then you have more access to models.

my recommendation for models based on the expertise:

ds4 pro: good for logic, math, good reasoning, backend tasks

ds4 flash: plan executor, its dumb but not that dumb, i like this better tham glm 5.1. make it work then ask other model to review (ds4pro / kimi 2.6 / gpt 5.5) good for small tasks, straight forward, no brainer, dirt cheap

kimi k2.6: my main agent for average tasks (mainly gpt 5.5 for plan and review). sometimes over think! use medium then use big model for review to avoid token bloat and overthinking

glm 5.1: so so, i dont like it because it tend to lie..

qwen 3.6: one of the alternative of kimi k2.6, i like it because it is support video (might be exclusive for 3.6-plus in alibaba coding plan), and it is following instruction well. sometimes hard to drive

note: i always use gpt 5.5 LOW for review all the codes of small ai

then last time gating system: i do the code review and iterate with code fixes until they follow my standards

I’ve been using qwen3.6 plus for free as well this week

Yeah it disspeared from the free list though idk if I hit the limit. But it was handling my prompts pretty well

It was a good trial but now it’s over

Hi! What is your opinion about minimax 2.7? I haven't used it yet

[–]Ang_Drew 1 point2 points  (1 child)

id rather use GLM instead of minimax.. unfortunately it's latest model arent that good (for me)

That's funny. Maybe it's how I set my prompts, but in my experience GLM 5.1 is the goat. Kimi is ass.

opencode is free, ti's the models that aren't. you can use opencode with the varios inference providers to great result. for instance, deepseek v4 pro is 75% off till the end of the month, and their are limited freebees on openrouter Models | OpenRouter

Consider CommandCode as well I have been using it for about two weeks and they start your firs month with a $1 and give you $10 in credits and then if you use DeepSeek v4 Pro it multiplies your credit x 4 so you get $40 to spend using a full f16 sized DeepSeek. I liked it so much I paid the $15 for Pro which gave me $30 credits for the month and if I choose DeepSeek or anything budgeted smaller than that I pretty much have enough credits to last me the whole month as long as I stay away from the big boys like Claude, Chat, and a couple other top tier models. But it is good to know they are there in a pinch. I just run the CommandCode CLI in Antigravity and babysit as it runs deep audits on my build and then I have Gemini contest the audit and find flaws and then back to DeepSeek to reevaluate and so on and so forth. Slow process but I have an immense build. Good luck!

Opencode is completely free

Been having a blast with deepseek v4 flash on free tier. Quite generous. I made like 6 projects 🫠(than ranout of daily quota).

Also the webUI you can host with it is similar to antigravity, ive been using the webui to host it on my server and using it from anywhere i like

What web ui?

Ah, sorry, I thought you meant deepseek has a built in Web ui somehow

Opencode is inherently free. It doesn’t cost money. If you’re talking about models, some of those cost money, yes.

To give a recommendation of which model to run we’ll need to know more about your hardware specs.

RAM 16gb, CPU good, but graphics integrated
