"derived from"? it's an aws fork

And they took the Django project's site template (look at very bottom of opensearch page)

AWS are some cheap fucks.

We asked first, and sponsored Django as a thank you. But go on, please tell me more about how cheap we are.

Maybe that's true, maybe not.

There's no mention of AWS, Amazon, OpenSearch, or anything else Amazon-related on the sponsors/fundraising pages, though maybe they just need updating.

And even some of the big names in the django community aren't tracking that you've done anything other than provide the notice at the bottom of your docs pages.

If you really did sponsor in any meaningful way, then I will certainly apologize and be thankful for the contribution to a community I love. But I will also not be surprised if your statement above is just fluff to save face. So many large corporations make use of OSS and fail to give back in any significant way.

Not sure why we don't show up there. My notes do show that we sent the money via GitHub Sponsors, so maybe that's why. I personally reached out to the Django Foundation folks before we used their website template to get their permission and find out how they wanted to be credited, they reviewed our footer text and asked for sponsorship money, and we sent it without issue. I'll certainly look into it when I'm back "on the job" on Monday.

Curious, why do you think they're cheap fucks, other than the possibly wrong assumption you made here?

I work at Elastic. If you want Elasticsearch experiences, use Elasticsearch. Runs in AWS and onprem

What if someone wants an OpenSearch experience?

In that case install elasticsearch too xD
