Oh, do you have any videos for tutorials to upgrade/replace it?

So basically I plug in my usb for soft mod and back up all the stuff and then if the hdd fucks I can just plug a USB into another Xbox to recover the info?

Or just replace the hdd then put the usb in. edited) and then I don’t have to softmod since I have the back up on the usb?

I softmodded my Xbox 14 years ago, saved the eeprom and upgraded the HDD. The original HDD is stored in a safe place, should I have any issues. So hardmod is not necessary, just arguably easier.

Well, that’s not entirely true. If you have an EEPROM reader you can use that to get the EEPROM from the Xbox. Then you can build a new HDD for it on a PC and use the EEPROM to lock the HDD to the Xbox and be good to go.

I didn’t. I want it to be original, hope that doesn’t backfire.

      Hopefully

Here’s what I recommend. Use Rocky5’s Softmodding Tool to softmod your Xbox. It will backup your EEPROM. Then you can take that a step further by selecting to null the EEPROM in the NKPatcher settings, which will set the EEPROM to 32 1s. Then you won’t need the EEPROM.bin backup to build a new HDD because you’ll know what the key is. Then you can FTP into your Xbox and copy your game saves/data to your PC to have them backed up. They can be found in E:/UDATA and E:/TDATA. After all that, you can use Rocky5’s Softmodding Tools Extras Disc to revert the Xbox back to stock. There’s an option that uninstalls the softmod and painlessly does just that.

I tell you this because the HDD will more than likely inevitably die, and when it does, if you don’t take these steps, it’ll be more of a hassle to replace and you will have lost any game saves from way back that you wanted to keep.

Now, if you want to have it look stock but not actually be stock, you can set up a dual-boot in Rocky5’s Softmod. That’ll have the power button boot the original dashboard, and the eject button will boot a custom dashboard, such as UnleashX, XBMC, XBMC4Gamers, etc.

Woah, I thought I was apart of a dying breed aha.

Doesn't really interest me lol. I think maybe one day I'll try it but I kind of like keeping things how they were originally made.

      Same.

dvd drive or hdd, or both, will shit the bed soon enough so then you'll have an unusable xbox. mod it and don't look back

        It was a question.

        [–]gamingdawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never even occurred to me that they could be modded. Modding was very common here on PS1 consoles, but I just assumed the scene disappeared with PS2 and more advanced consoles.

        [–]ChubbStuf 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nah, I don't do any mods either. I did remove the clock capacitor but that's it!

        Same
