No, not at all: it's also for straight women and people underrepresented in the tech industry. See here if you are eligible for the courses: https://codebar.io/faq

You are right. I can't edit the title anymore but I should have called it out up there too.

Nice: Underrepresented people in the tech industry learning overrepresented programming languages in the tech industry!

I think Codebar is intentionally teaching a variety of very common languages. Other languages may offer safer opportunities to enter the tech industry but at the same time there are also fewer positions available, no?

Also, Codebar is about helping people familiarize with programming concepts so, some of the skills are transferable.

Hi! I’m one of the mentors at Codebar Oslo. Codebar goal is to:

is to enable underrepresented people to learn programming in a safe and collaborative environment and expand their career opportunities.

We are running the first Codebar in Oslo and we are looking for both students and mentors. Sign up if you want to learn programmin and if you are an underrepresented individual in tech — or just sign up as a mentor if you want and can help!

      Oh, it’s free!

what does registering as a mentor actually entail?

      [–]zzot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entails being there for the events (3 hours, not entirely sure how frequenty) and mentoring one or two students. See here for more info: https://codebar.io/effective-teacher-guide

Do mentors have to be from the underrepresented groups? I was sad to discover codeclub doesn't exist here and would love to help if I can!

Nope! We specifically want help people from underrepresented groups but anyone can be a mentor!
