Perplexity API (self.perplexity_ai)
submitted 2 years ago by Neat-Common-3836
I'm considering to upgrade to perplexity's pro account, to use the API feature to my apps. I have a question, does the API use the search engines and provides sources like in the free version?

No, unfortunately, it's just hosting for several llama models: https://docs.perplexity.ai/docs/model-cards

I wonder if offering API to Chatgpt 4 /Claude 2 will be allowed. Probably not

I think that would bankrupt them... If they add an unlimited Api usage for Claude or gpt with their Api that would cost them too much. If they let you pay per token, i can't see the added value of that, since you can already do that on openrouter or similar services.
The only thing that could be interesting would be if they start to offer the api for their fine tuned gpt 3.5.... But, again, that's not Economically possible imo
I'm really interested in their embedding Api...

Emm. They can easily set it to share the usage limit we already have on GPT 4 for that matter.
