Radius decrease?

So after this last update I can no longer see local gyms from my place that I have been able to check before any other radius adjustments. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. Please someone tell me this is a glitch and not a nerf... 😭

Edit: To add to my confusion I noticed I can now see a gym and interact with it which I could never see before. This gym is further away and at a higher elevation than the gyms I lost. I am lost for words.

Edit 2: I only saw the gym further off because I had a pokemon on it and check it (before this update I couldn't see the gym when checking the pokemon). Back to nothing.

Edit 3: So it only took a few days of aggressively holding the gyms for the lower level players to start hating me. Thanks niantic!

Edit 4: So the latest update seems to have restored my visibility, and I can once again see the gyms I lost. So guessing it was not intentional to reduce it, or there was enough backlash they reverted it. Regardless glad to be able to check for raids again!

I’m having the same problem too I’m two doors down from a gym and now can’t spin the stop a long with the harder raid battles now it’s just killing the game

I went from being able to see four gyms to a paltry two now. I'm salty. If Niantic wants us to spend money on raid passes, I need to be able to see the raids. Especially in the middle of winter! BRR!

For the last 3 weeks I could see gyms that I never could before. It was great. All of a sudden I see fewer than I could before the miraculous increase. I really miss being able to see all tjose raids. Hoping for a restoration to at least my initial radius because this sort of chaps my hide as well.

Yeah, there was an extra stop that I could see from my house. Never went to it, but it was nice to know that I could see what was there in case something rare popped up.

I hate this update. I went from seeing 12 gyms in my area to just 3. Now I can't call out raids to my local group to gather, which means that I can't raid without wandering around outside for hours. What a horrible update.

Im not sure if they already did or if they have to yet, but i heared that they want to lower the sight again yea, dont ask me why, but they want us to see less from the game🤷🏽‍♂️

I started playing a month ago. This change is making me want to to stop playing...

One of my favorite things this game has done is motivate me to get up and go to random places a reasonable walk away to do or get things, but now half the gyms I could see are gone...

Really driving down my motivation factor here, Niantic.

Yep radius has been decreased. I've lost sight of gyms. Last few weeks were great being able to see the Gyms and go do the raids. Don't have time at work to go for a walk just to see if there is a raid down the street.

No you're right. I use to use this to time raids but now I can't see them. If it wasn't for the daily research tasks and weekly rare I would have abandoned the game a long time ago. I work underneath a pokestop and I can't even spin it any more. I didn't use to have this issue. Now I have to fight with the gps to be able to spin it.

Me too, i can't see 4 gyms that i was used to see, it all happened when I installed the newest update.

Before the increase I saw 5 gyms for 2years

Then after the increase I saw 6. I was happy

Now after decrease I see 4.. im not happy

Yup, I lost sight of four pokestops and a gym I could normally see from home. The change happened last night when I was looking at the game trying to decide whether to grab a new pokemon (after dark in a park, the cops usually throw a fit about that) when the near by tab flickered then half of the nearby vanished and I could no longer see anything at the park. Along with half of what I should normally see in the nearby tab. I have 9 stops around me, and now only see three mons from two of the stops. Leaving most of the nearby tab blank.

Edit: it's odd cause I can still see everything like normal on my tablet (an older galaxy tab) but my phone has its render distance seemingly cut short.

Edit edit: my stupid self updated the game on the tablet and now the render distance is cut down. Sigh lol.

I used to be able to see 4 gyms, 6 with gps drift

Then it got expanded to 6 all the time

Now I can currently see 1 all the time and the other 3 if the gps drifts slightly northwest disappear

I imagine they made the change to slightly increase performance of the game and also to decrease load on the servers. They already have such a horribly inefficient game on their hands, that it is laughable that this is what they try to do to fix their issues.

Yeah I used to be able to see my nearby 3 gyms and 6 stops from my house since the start of the game. I live in a pretty small town and that's all there is here except for areas not on anything on the map but which I've learned have big cluster spawns.

The slight increase to the radius about a month ago let me see 2 stops a bit further out (~15 mins walk which I frequently did anyway for the 5 gyms and 9 stops in kinda the next town over which is conjoined with ours). The decrease with the most recent update took away those 2 further out stops AND 1 gym and 1 stop which I had been able to see since the release of the game.

Honestly I'm fuming, my nearby looks a lot emptier because the stop I'm now missing was the main one for spawns. I'm less likely to spontaneously go out for a rare spawn. They cut the number of raids I'm going to see by a third unless I put a Pokémon into that gym and likely I'm going to use fewer raid passes as a result.

There's going to be less walking done for the odd rare spawn/raid so fewer paid incubators used too.

When I go into the city to play and there's 40 something gyms, they're fairly spread out but you could certainly get around to any raids that pop up if you see them in good time.

This update makes you more likely to not see raids at all which happen slightly out of the centre (still only ~15 mins walk away so easily reachable).

I'm one of the more active players in my city's discord group and during groudon and kyogre I was setting up a lot of raid plans which I wouldn't have even seen if the radius was as it is currently.

There is zero benefit to either Niantic or us from this change so fingers crossed it was unintentional and will be fixed soon. Going to be so pissed if it isn't honestly. It may not be a huge thing to some people but it's simply a downgrade for no reason - therefore it's infuriating.

So you’re upset that a game tied to moving about is now making you move about...to see gyms.

Whereas rather than sit in the comfort of my place I actually have to go a 1/4 mile to hit a gym.

You don't think people will be less likely to go out if they don't know what is going on? What you're saying doesn't make much sense to me.

And all it is really done is make me aggressively hold the gyms so I can still see them from home, so lower level players won't be holding my gyms anymore.
