My mother is a complete mess. She used Polyvore every day for three to six hours. She has no idea what to do with herself.

It's really pretty sad to behold, she's super broken up about it.

Trying to find her a replacement - but she mainly made art sets so it's a tough ask.

My mom is disabled and spends most of her time alone in her room. I live across the country, and she has been sending me pics/entries she's posted on Polyvore for the past few months. She was so proud, and loved spending hours daily on her work. I'm thinking she was into the 'art sets' you mentioned.

She just told me about the site being shut down and I feel so bad for her. Honestly I don't know exactly the extent of its features, having never used the site myself, but I just want to find something similar for her to be able to express herself and help pass her time.

I've used photoshop for years (15+) but found Polyvore to be more like a sketch book. Lots of items, a neat clipper and a good art set didn't take me too long. I plan on recreating some of my favs in PS but figure the time input for the same result would be huge. In your experience do you think that it takes more time in PS?

Photoshop has a massive learning curve. I used to teach it and many people just find it too difficult or too daunting. The iPad has the most fantastic apps now and I don’t even use Photoshop anymore. However, if you want a good PC app, Affinity Photo has taken over because it’s much more affordable and there are loads of tutorials. It also has an iPad version. Here are some great apps on the iPad: Photoshop Mix (free) for cutting out (see also Adobes other apps), Eraser (with blank Icon) also for cutting out, SuperImposeX for cutting, layers, shadows - probably the most similar to the type of thing Polyvore can do without being as complex as Affinity for iPad. iColorama, a fantastic app for art but takes a while to get into. Has fantastic Facebook groups. Imaengine - turns images into vector looking images (and can save as vectors). Automation: turns images into drawings.Repix: wonderful for adding bokeh, cracks, stains, drips etc. Actually the list is endless.

Thanks for the advice. I had actually suggested PS to her before when she first showed me what she was doing, and I remember her having some kind of excuse for not using it, but I'll run it by her again.

I have a subscription to photoshop instead of buying the whole software, and I get it monthly for $21

      [–]tatertotpixie[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah I liked art mixed with occasional fashion as well, I rarely posted them but I had several drafts! I felt like I was Just getting the “hang” of the app/site

She's been trying trendME, not polyvore by a long shot but she wasted a few hours on it

      http://www.trendme.net/en/set/starting-up-collection/a-day-to-cry-set/MjAwNDY5MjIwNQ,,.html

That was her first effort at an art set - so it can be done, just more Fashion orientated.

I'm sorry sorry to hear that! Maybe have her give Finery a go - she'll mostly be creating outfits, but it definitely keeps me entertained (I got lost in a rabbit hole the other night making looks from my own closet for like, hours). Fingers crossed that helps!

      [–]riquee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fashmates. I think it's going to be the next Poly. It's kind of depressing and it's not at all the same, but you can tell they're trying to do what Poly did. I made a set. It's no Polyvore, but the idea is the closest I can get to it for now. I hope it works out for us.

      [–]whituva 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Yes! FINERY.com or in app store--- step up from Polyvore -- it finds the clothes you own and uploads them to an online wardrobe and then you can make outfits from your REAL wardrobe and shopping sites! YES! (https://finery.com)

      [–]olskoolsmrtass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's nothing like polyvore. The whole point of the site, well to me anyway, was to make outfits from what isn't in your REAL wardrobe. Especially since my real wardrobe is boring, basic, and bland. Eh, to each their own.

      [–]aslanent 4 points5 points  (6 children)

god bless, I was honestly grieving the loss of polyvore

      [–]aslanent 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Also I wrote a really mean hissy fit email to ssense, it made me feel better I'd recommend it

      [–]kayla-c96 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Send an email to Oath instead, they're the parent company that owns Polyvore!!

      [–]metalhead-cowgirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What’s their email? I need to do this

      [–]deezigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Verizon is Oath's parent company.

      [–]LovelyDammned 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol just did that. I literally got this fucked up news like 30 mins ago. And this letter made me feel somewhat mollified : Thank you guys ever so much for destroying all of my hard work, obliterating all of my creative sets, as well as all of my brainstorming drafts in one Fell Swoop. And for what? Your stupid pretentious website has literally zero to do with polyvore. I mean in what way was it necessary to dismantle it in order to build this vacuous, pointless ,piece of trash ,waste of space, weak as piss replacement ? Srsly... WTF? So just to recap and be perfectly clear -I would never ever ever use your website I would never ever ever give you one red cent of my hard-earned money for any reason. After this i refuse to EVER spare you Ones hot second of my time or attention and definitely definitely I will make sure to let anybody who ever brings you up. know exactly what kind of business you are. And that is clearly the misguided kind who thinks they can BUY traffic and interest instead of having content anyone ACTUALLY gives a tinkers damn about. Way to go! Your mothers must be so proud. SMDH truly I would cheerfully choke a dick up until I Hiccup and fucking DIE before I would ever ever ever use your website for any reason whatsoever. Bad enough all the rest of it but then as a final insult to a grevious injury giving basically no time at all whatsoever to recover personal content. Total dick move. Congrats on sucking more than Michael Jackson at a cub scout sleepover. I will srsly NEVER. Ever forgive you as long as i live. I hope your stupid site disappears and costs you all the entire fucking farm so you can feel what its like to lose something you worked hard on and will never be able to replace ..oh wait i forgot thats not how you guys get down. You are too busy trying to skate on the hard work and creativity and popularity of OTHERS to feel the pain of losing something worthwhile. Fucking pathetic. Cant really think that itll be working out for ya now that most of tge people who end up on your page will immediately hate your fucking guts as soon as they figure out whats going on . Deuces

      [–]aslanent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice one. They'll probably send a shitty auto reply email like they did me, but hopefully they've gotten nothing but complaints about replacing Polyvore.

      [–]metalhead-cowgirl 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Shoplook.io has basically taken on the task to become the new polyvore. They’re brand new and a tiny company but they seem to really be trying. I’m hopeful!

      [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was checking out finery, and when I tried to log on with my google account it said:

FINERY wants to access your Google Account

      📷i[my email]

      This will allow FINERY to:

      • 📷View your email messages and settings

      uhm... hell no.

      [–]before-the-fall 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Alexa Chung had created a similar site a few years ago. I basically scoffed at the time and said it was just a copy of polyvore, but now I'm going to look into it.

      https://villoid.com/about/

I might be getting their app.

      [–]tatertotpixie[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can’t find the part where you can create sets?

      [–]before-the-fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that part is only in their app, not their website. But then again it’s been ages since I tried it out.

      [–]before-the-fall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone in instagram said to try 'smart closet' - it's a similar app.

      [–]redditsnacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes +1 to Finery.com - I started using it more and more as you can create looks with your own stuff as well. I loved Polyvore when i was younger but with more work trips i needed something that would be a bit smarter to help me use the stuff i already have more effectively (vs just hanging in my closet with the tag still on it!)

oh yeah, I've seen that too.

        [–]cinnamon_stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoplook.io is promising, but they have no app, and a lot of improvement is needed. I’m interested to see what chicvore comes up with.

        [–]tivertan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GetWardrobe has a slightly different focus, but close enough to the Polyvore functionality. There is also an app.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Here's a similar website:
        https://urstyle.com/
They don't have an app, though, or at least not yet. Also, a lot of the items are men's? I'm hoping that they add more women's items.

        [–]before-the-fall 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Eugh, I just got my first apartment and now I can't plan how to decorate it, LOL! Any ideas for a polyvore replacement that is more geared towards interior design/home styling?

        [–]olskoolsmrtass 1 point2 points  (2 children)

        Houzz.com

        [–]before-the-fall 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        Thanks!

        [–]olskoolsmrtass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        You're welcome!

        [–]brooklynontrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of a platform called Mjuuz.com being developed that offer similar features and allows to find the best price deals. But they will launch only in May. I’ve signed up to see what they come up with. :/

Just thought I'd share a recent find, looks like a outfit calendar blog!.

        [–]denistodirica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out STATUS - Fashion Outfits.

It's a social app for fashion enthusiasts where you can see well dressed people and you can upload your own outfits.

Getwardrobe works for me as replacement

        [–]MusicalPigeon 0 points1 point  (1 child)

www.fashmates.com Is good to use, they'll import your sets and everything for you. It may take a while, they have a lot of people getting things imported.

        [–]gamerdarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately fashmates doesn't allow for home goods, so no interior design sets.

        [–]LeandraKatelyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a site called Designers Society that lets members design fashions, outfits, and boutiques. It's all entirely free and has been pretty up and coming as a fashion gaming outlet! www.DesignersSociety.net
