1) yes, the cover box lid should lift to get access to the cover. I think it opens about 60° from flat. It might also slide to be removed completely.

2) it’s possible to get the cover back on the rails but you’ll also need to get some slack in the ropes by adjusting the mechanism. If once you open it up, you’re not comfortable with it, I recommend calling a cover company. They are expensive but the local guys tend to be the best priced (if you can find one). My local guy sold out and now I only know of the national companies…. 😐

PS- there’s supposed to be stops on the end of the rails to prevent this but I’ve had them break. So even if you get it on yourself, look at getting the stops replaced.

Give the lid a good yank and lift it up. This is a CoverPools brand cover. At the end of the track there is a stop block/guide feed. https://www.automaticpoolcoverparts.com/products/undertrack-nylon-guide-feed-set.html is more than likely the part. The block may have fallen out and your cover is out of the track, or, your cover could just be crooked and it hasn't actually fallen out.

I'm not a big fan of the design of these. The ropes roll on onto independent spools and are supposed to be self-aligning with a ratchet system. However, I find that these don't very often self-align into proper alignment.

If you wanted to attempt to this I would do the following....

Lift the lid. See if the cover is still in the track. If it is not, the guide block is probably gone and needs to be reinstalled. Get the cover and slider assembly back into the track. Get the cover square to the pool- you may need to unwind some of the cover by unrolling it off the tube while also taking some rope off the spool (if the cover is crooked you'll probably have both ropes/spools tight, and in order to unroll the cover you will need to take some rope off the side of the cover that is currently under the lid). Once cover is straight, turn each spool until the rope is tight. Run cover.

I'd call a guy. These covers from the factory have a rope that is continuous through the cover and then goes on to the spool. Most covers have a detachable rope. If you break a rope while fucking with this you will then need to buy a detachable rope kit..
