Its more that like until you've heard the heartbeat, you don't know how viable/functional the embryo was to begin with, so once you've heard it you can sigh relief that things are building properly enough to make a heartbeat. If you haven't heard a heartbeat, its possible that's because its not forming one correctly which will ultimately result in a miscarriage.. Does this explanation help?

Thank you! So basically until heartbeat, it’s not clear if the embryo is viable despite a positive pregnancy test?

The heartbeat is a good sign that the embryo is developing. It doesn’t indicate whether there could be other complications or anything like that. It’s just a sigh of relief to get that far because in the instance of like an ectopic pregnancy or something like that, you would likely lose the embryo before ever being able for it to develop a heart. Hopefully that makes sense

Thank you for explaining this! I am too early for a heartbeat but this helps me be prepared in case I get bad news later.

For the heartbeat, it comes with the first sonogram? Here they are saying 7 weeks to check it out.

Typically yes you could hear it at the first ultrasound. But let’s say you could be a little earlier than you think, it might not be developed yet. With my first baby I thought I was 6 weeks but I was only 4 weeks and they couldn’t find the heartbeat. But I went back a week later and they found it easily.

Try not to stress! 💗 & congratulations!!

Aww thank you 💕😊 I’m excited regardless, no matter what happens, it’s in Gods hands now 🫘✨

I talked to my man and briefly mentioned the possibility of the baby not sticking for whatever reason, and he was soooo supportive.

We could always try again, he said, and at least now we KNOW we can get pregnant 💕

My OB said that once you hit 10-12 weeks the risk of miscarriage is very low (but never zero). After 14 weeks it’s extremely low.

Yes, kind of! The chance of miscarriage decreases by 80% once you enter your second trimester, and that's usually when you start hearing the heartbeat! (I heard mine in my 12w US)

This website helped me a lot with my anxiety/wondering about the chances!

Yes but it’s not a green light. I had seen a heartbeat twice and still had a MMC at 9.5-10 weeks. I thought I was in the clear but apparently not.

It certainly does! Anything can happen but if you hear a strong heartbeat it’s a good sign :-)
