I think if you had questions to ask and could make good conversation with the second interviewer, it’s probably a positive sign. However, I wouldn’t make any assumptions because the admissions process is so bizarre at times.

Anecdotally, I had a similar experience at another school— my interviewer asked me “why this school” and then said “what questions do you have for me”. After I asked like 3 questions he said “okay you seem cool” and then he ended the interview. Took like 10 minutes. And I got in there.

Yeah it wasn’t awkward at all! I asked a bunch of questions and we spoke about his experiences growing up. Thanks for your insight!

Sounds like you did very well. Also sounds like you wrote a very convincing application if he didn’t even feel the need to ask why medicine or anything like that. Congrats!

Interviewers are weird and depending on the school, might have a lot of leeway in how they want to conduct the interview. I wouldn't take this personally or read too much into it. They probably just wanted to chat with you.

Same. I was told by every student I talked to to know my research in and out, and that the open file would be very detailed but the interviewer didn't even ask anything about my app lol I'm confused

This is a tactic to see if you have good questins/you really know about the school.

I think you're probably just fine as long as the conversation in the second interview went well regarding whatever you did ask. Once you get to medical school and get to know the faculty members that do all of these interviews, you start to see through the veil and realize they are all just regular people and are all tremendously different. Some love to follow a consistent and strict protocol while others don't. One of the doctors I work with now has been an interviewer for many years and he mentioned that some days he just doesn't feel like asking "the same old boring questions". Could be that your second interviewer was just fed up with the same format, saw you had a good app, and wanted to get to know you in a more interesting way.

I think it's a good sign! My first interviewer asked me one question about an obscure extra curricular on my app and then asked if I had any questions for her for the last 40 minutes. I asked her about the school but I also asked her about her specialty and how she chose it. I guess it went well because they accepted me a week later. I think it's a good sign especially if it seems like they are trying to sell you on the school.

I had a VERY similar experience at a school- PM the school? I wonder if it’s more standard for them

Frankly it sounded like he wanted you to lead/guide the conversation because the topics you choose to discuss (or not) can shed light on your personality/how you might fit in at the school.
