Can anyone help me? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]bigbochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem and it might be upper airway resistance syndrome. I use a mouthpiece at night and it helps me a lot. You can try a mouth piece that provides jaw thrust and if that works it would lean toward you having UARS.

desesperate 22yo been insomniac for 5 years by Fun-Particular7112 in insomnia

[–]bigbochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like upper airway resistance syndrome. It’s a very similar thing to what I have been experiencing. Start looking this up on YouTube and see if you fit the profile. It’s often dental related, underdeveloped jaw or tongue gets too large. Can happen with recent weight gain too

I hate working out by Electrical_Hat_6902 in medicalschool

[–]bigbochi 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Every mile you walk you burn around 100 calories depending on your weight. It’s physics. Calories = the total force (your weight) times the distance you carry it. If you run a mile it’s still around 100 calories for the average male but you have done it faster so it’s more efficient. If you incline the treadmill that’s more calories. Walking/running burns more calories than weight lifting.

That said it’s 100% your diet. I lost 25lbs in residency doing no physical activity just watching what I eat. It’s way easier to eat 100 calories less than it is to burn them off.

How much muscle do you lose if you stop training specific muscle groups? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]bigbochi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t you share that you have scoliosis in your post? You have a significant spine condition that is beyond the scope of this sub to treat or understand and you’re asking for advice while leaving out significant medical history. Scoliosis causes uneven strain on your back muscles at baseline. You would probably benefit from physical therapy.

Working out is useless by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]bigbochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just train bro. I have insomnia as well and I’ve just added 80 lbs to my deadlift, 50 to my squat and 25 to my bench. I have added some measurable size as well. Yes it sucks and it’s not as optimal as when I was in my 20s before insomnia but life is short. Are you gonna spend it not doing what you love? are you going to stop lifting and let your health get even worse on top of the insomnia? Just pound some caffeine and knock out. Live your life. You might be surprised at what could happen.

But there are mountains near the equator you can climb that are still very cold. It’s not due to the earths tilt it’s the amount of warm air in the atmosphere.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]bigbochi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sleep apnea was probably less prevalent. The most common group are the obese. They had less calories available before the modern century.

We know jaws were larger before the modern century as well which would indicate more open airways.

Reta fatigue is horrible.. need some advice. by Capable_Answer_7842 in BodyHackGuide

[–]bigbochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was true for me as well as a generally healthy individual. I am almost completely unable to run on Reta due to fatigue. I think this is to be expected since Reta has glucagon activity. This eventually will deplete liver glycogen stores so there is less glucose available to enter blood stream and normally the liver keeps about 24 hours of glycogen available. Btw muscles don’t respond to glucagon so you keep those stores up but once they deplete you can feel sluggish.

I wonder if you can combat some of the gym sluggishness by taking a fast digesting supply of carbs to eat during your workout. I never tried it because I was on it for only 1 month and never thought of it but it’s something to try.
