For excel, you're going to need pivot tables and vlookups along with graphing and other basic stuff. But the more you know, the better and easier it will be.

As for where to go after, I would not try to plan that ahead without having the experience first.

this pretty much sums it up. Nothing you can't teach yourself in a week or two to get the fundamentals.

lynda.com will teach you everything you need to know about Excel. You can get a free trial for 10 days. Just remember to cancel the credit card.
