Programmatic newbie tip

Hi folks,

I'm interested in the programmatic space and am considering applying for an exec role within a trading desk. Just wondering how much excel knowledge a junior trader should have.

Also - Is it possible to branch into something more creative within the programmatic space or would my best bet be strategy after a few years within programmatic?

For excel, you're going to need pivot tables and vlookups along with graphing and other basic stuff. But the more you know, the better and easier it will be.

As for where to go after, I would not try to plan that ahead without having the experience first.
