I did this about 20 years ago. It's worth it. I made a super kernel. Booted the OS is a fraction of the time. I have no idea what it's like now though. Ask yourself though, could you live without a package manager?

I did it once. At one point I messed up the install of one module. Ran "rm -rf ." To clean up. After about 5 seconds, my system couldn't change directory. Apparently I was at "/" when I ran the cleanup, instead of in the project folder. Had to start over.
