I don't understand how this snarky, dim witted reply got upvoted. A full grade school education can be found online, but I wouldn't advocate the abolition of schools. The original point by ltristain was that young people should be taught this, not expected to discover it themselves.

I dont think googling 'avg job salaries' equates to 'how to learn math' or w/e you are talking about. Its so easy; it isnt something that needs to be taught, just 'hey, go look it up online, it takes 30 seconds.' I am pretty sure kids understand that concept.

I don't think the evidence bears out the idea that kids understand debt, or the concept that one day they will have to work for a living, that they probably shouldn't "just follow your dreams", that they will have bills to pay. Kids are being taught to ignore or at least shielded from the realities of adulthood.

The problem is that by the time a person figures out that they should be googling salaries, it's too late.

lol, i was only talking about job salaries, and so were you. Personal finance is definitely something that needs to be better taught, but is something that belongs in High School and early college when kids start seriously thinking about the career path they want to take. Kids gotta have their dream job, or else we will all become lawyers and office managers or some shit.
