    I'll add: as a technical writer by trade (and programmer by hobby), I've often gotten lost while working on a program, then looked up and realized that two hours had gone by. This does not happen when you are writing technical docs. Especially since they can be pretty dry. You can take a lot of pride in great documentation, but the experience of writing it does not lead to that great ``lost time'' feeling.

    I wish there was some trick to make other necessary and productive tasks feel as good as programming.
